The system was working fine and then all of a sudden, I get a blue box that says "Boot device not found Please install an operating system on your hard drive. Hard drive 3F0" then it tells me to hit F2 -system diagnostics. When I do, it can't run the tests because it doesn't show anything there.I can occasionally get it to boot to my usb hard drive where I have window to setup. It tries but it doesn't have drivers that it needs on  the system to finish the install.

Is the hard drive just done or is there I can recover/reset it to load windows 10?

Do I need a new hard drive?

Also, if I replace the hard drive, the system also needs the TPM board in order to install win 11. Is this possible to be done on this system?

TIA

@Molsbee2014, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding the Hard Drive Issue!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Check Hard Drive Connections:

  • Ensure that all cables connecting the hard drive to the motherboard are securely attached. This includes power and data cables.

Access System BIOS/UEFI:

  • Restart your computer and enter the BIOS/UEFI settings. This is usually done by pressing a key like F10, F2, Delete, or Esc right after turning on the system.
  • Verify that the hard drive is recognized in the BIOS. If it's not listed, there might be a connection issue or a failure with the drive.

Run Diagnostics:

  • Many HP computers have built-in diagnostics accessible through the BIOS or boot menu. Try running a hard drive diagnostic test.
  • If diagnostics are unavailable from the internal hard drive, consider using a bootable USB diagnostic tool designed for hard drive tests.

Check Boot Order:

  • Make sure that the correct boot device is prioritized in the BIOS/UEFI settings. This should be your hard drive or USB if that's where your OS currently resides.

Use Recovery Media:

  • You mentioned using a USB hard drive with Windows setup; ensure it's a bootable recovery media with the necessary drivers. You might also consider creating a new bootable USB drive with an updated version of Windows.

Reinstall or Repair Windows:

  • If possible, boot from the USB containing Windows setup and attempt a repair installation. This might fix bootloader issues or recover missing system files necessary for booting.

Hope this helps!

Take care, and have an amazing day!
