KMODE EXCEPTION NOT HANDLED,

Contacted Tech Spt twice today and their answer was to reset my system, with the loos of all my data that's on my hard drive. However HP does not provided any recovery media with the computer unless you purchase it from them. Or you can go to another windows computer and create your own recovery media following their instructions. And then reinstall the windows 10 software. This is the second time I have had to repair this computer in 7 months, the first time it had to be sent back to HP because the HDMI plug went bad. And now this. I am not happy with this computer at all

Big-block,

    - Chill ... you are starting to sound a bit like a 360cc Honda Z scamp, trying to get up a slope. They sound like that because they are what they are. You're better (running on one cylinder) ...

We can fix this. You will not lose your data.

Firstly - this and many/most failure issues (not the HDMI port) are directly related to the Windows 10x operating system (failures and conflicts there-in), which I expect MS are working-on, but not at any great speed and generally ignoring (executive level - not their IT/support & customer contact staff ... latter cannot offer solutions that executive management are not providing). This is frustrating for (corporate) HP and its customer/business support framework (inhouse), as it is for Intel and most other big manufacturers ... as folks are blaming them/their product - instead of MS/Win 10X OS. Being copyright ... and you all know what MS is like about their 'copyright' and their 'intellectual property' - there are limits to what HP (and the others) can do about it ... because they/we do not have access to the machine code/routines to fix the MS O/S errors/conflicts.

Fast forward that to your recent experience with HP Customer Support (inhouse), and simply give them the leeway to understand they have limitations fixing.suggesting fixes - for something that is not a HP product failing. Forgive them for letting you down - but appreciate they are getting thousands of complaints every day .. about Win 10X failings/failures.

OK.

1. You can download all you need from HP online. You only need the HP recovery/diagnostic USB program - download it directly to a new/clean USB. (its small - so any size over 4GB stick will do - but take two USB's - need one for something else). Next go to the Microsoft community support page - scroll back to April 20 and look for three posts (me taking to the MS crowd) relating to a HP Z400 Xeon  system crash.

The second/middle post (MS dudes responding) has direct links to everything needed to restore/replace a Windows 10x system. You only want the USB Windows restoration file. Download it onto the second clean/new USB stick.

Take the long way home and run-over some Honda Z's (out them out of their misery), then once in your drive - pry any remnants from your tyre tread, and throw in the trash can.

Make sure nothing - except you momdem/LAN connection, keyboard and mouse (if used/applicable)  - are connected to your computer.

Insert the USB drive/stick and let the diagnostic/repair program do its thing. Follow instructions where applicable. If you get stuck/confused - once it is running - enter the bios and select 'default settings', then exit and save (F10).

Shut down and remove the HP USB.

Insert the MS recovery/set-up USB, then turn on the computer and run the MS recovery program.

This may take 3 > 4 hours ... so you might like to try the "Tappet Brother's" advice - mow the lawn and see what's hidden in the yard; get a hard-on looking through old California Custom mag's ... etc.

The computer will turn itself on and off a number of times. Some times fast sequence - screen up (graphics drivers being written). Mostly with a blank screen (machine code being written). It may appear stopped/stuck, but it is going/working. DO NOT TOUCH IT, nor the keyboard/mouse.

Sooner or later the Beach Cave log-on page appears (might be the Worlds last Z360 watching-out for Chevys). Let the z360 suffer - or wait to see the screen stay static for ten to fifteen minutes.

When it does - log on as normal. Your files, data, etc., should all be intact.

Suggestion (optional) - go straight to "Security & Update" via SETTINGS. At Update - select 'pause', then go to 'advance settings' and pick the farthest possible date before the next auto-update. In three weeks time, do the same again (stop Windows 10x auto-updating) ... because that process/associated factors - is what caused your malfunction, and will do so again.

As they used to say: "Keep on trucking ..." (Grubb/ Fat Freddie and the Freak Brothers)

Cheers,

Rick.

[[Revenge? Buy - or trade a used chewing gum, for a old rusty Mondeo. Drive it to the MS executive car park and leave it close proximity to the Merc's. Let the Mondeo's rusty jump onto the Merc's ... then walk off laughing.]]
