Pavilion 24-b223w

Hi,

I have a Pavilion 24-223w all in one desktop with a 1TB hard drive. I had a crash recently and had to reinstall windows. Before the crash I had several large software programs installed that I'm sure that took up several hundred gig.

Trying to reinstall some of these programs and it said I didn't have enough disk space for the program. I ran WinDirStat and it shows that my hard drive has about 100 gig. I really don't know whats going on but definitely need more than 100 gig.  Did I do something during the reinstall of windows that would have caused this? TIN

Did you confirm the total disk volume in Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Computer Management, Disk Management?

 

Try running HP Hardware diagnostics to test the HDD.

 

Restart your PC and tap "Esc".

Select "F2".

Run System tests.

 

You have lost a lot of storage space.

Ran the diagnostics test and passed all. Here is a screen shot of disk management. Looks a little strange to me.

Hi.

 

Yes. you have unallocated space on both Disk 0 and Disk 1.

 

Try the following procedures to see if you can extend Windows C: on disk 0. You want to add the unallocated space (260 MB and 842.18 GB) to the Windows C: partition.

 

Right click on Windows C: located in the bottom section of Disk Management.

Select "Extend Volume". Windows Disk Management should show around 842 GB available.

 

Add the unallocated space to C:.

 

You have a 32 GB FAT32 Recovery partition on Disk 1. I don't know what that is but you have about 1831 GB of unallocated space on Disk 1. You can do the same thing in Disk 1.

 

But I would create a new NTFS volume on Disk 1 if you need the FAT32 volume.

I have unallocated space because I am using disk over provisioning on two different SSDs.

I was hoping this did not happen. You are right clicking on Windows C: within Disk 0?

 

W10 Disk Management extend options require contiguous disk space to extend a volume.

 

You may have to use third party software to extend Windows C:.

 

I use MiniTool Partition Wizard Free (Link) to modify disk volumes when Windows Disk Management can't do the job. 

 

You may need to purchase Disk Management software if MiniTool Free cannot merge and extend the partition.

 

I usually install Windows clean (Custom installation).

 

I delete all existing partitions on the disk before installing Windows.

 

Then run Windows setup to install the OS on a raw disk. Windows partitions and formats the disk.

 

Now you have no unallocated space on the disk.

I could not recover the lost disk space so I purchased a recovery USB from HP for my specific desktop. Now when it tries to install the files I get this message. It is a Pavilion 24-b223w.recovery image.jpg

That looks like a product number mismatch between your PC and the HP Recovery media.

 

Do a clean W10 install per my previous post.

 

Back up data!

 

Custom install.

 

Delete all parttitions.

 

Then install Windows clean on the empty disk.
