HP Pavilion BM384AA#ABA
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Computer:  HP Paviion BM384AA#ABA   a4511f

Processor:  AMD Sempron 140 Processor 2700 mhz

Bios:  American Megatrends Inc.  5.120 (3/15/10)

Graphics card  (?):  Nvidia.  Driver 10.0.18362.1

I have an older computer.  It came with Windows 7.  In January I downloaded and updated to Windows 10.  During the install I got some message that quickly flashed on the screen about a problem-didn't understand it. I guess windows 10 doesn't support my graphics card???

Now the display looks as if it is in safe mode.  It shows that it has a Microsoft Display Adapter.  I cannot run simple stuff, like solitaire, etc.

I am not a gamer, nor do I use the computer for anything really intensive.  However, I cannot find  an updated driver, or really cannot find the actual model of the graphics that the computer  came with.

I ran HP support assistant and it found no updated drivers.  I would really not want to get a new computer just yet, as it works okay anyway.

So:: are there updated drivers that would help?  Do I need a whole new graphics card?  Are there basic graphics cards out there at reasonable cost?

Thanks in advance for any help

Hi:

See if this works...

Download and save, but do not run this W8 Nvidia graphics driver.

https://www.nvidia.com/Download/driverResults.aspx/82758/en-us

Download and install this free file utility.  The 2nd link at the top of the page is for 64 bit.

https://www.7-zip.org/

After you install 7-Zip, right click on the graphics driver file you saved.

Select 7-Zip from the list of items on the menu.

Have 7-Zip Extract to:  and let it extract the driver file into its folder name.

Once that is completed, go to the device manager.

Click to expand the Display Adapters device manager category.

Click on the Microsoft Basic Display Adapter listed there.

Click on the driver tab.  Click on Update driver.

Select the Browse my computer for driver software option, and browse to the driver folder that 7-Zip created.

Make sure the Include Subfolders box is checked and the driver should install.

Then restart the PC and hopefully, the graphics will be working just fine again.
