@KidsPavilion is right, OEMs provide office for a trial period with new purchase.
However, if you are a student at certain educational institutions you can get it free
One of my kids got me Visual Studio Pro years ago before microsoft started giving it away. Same for Windows XP.
At one time the company I worked for had ".edu" for the email and that was all that was needed but Microsoft closed that loophole long ago.
Open office is good but I have yet to find a good email app and outlook is worth the money.
Every now and then you can get office pro 2021 or newer for $10 USD and I personally know people who have bought the key and activated the software and had no problem.
