Missing BitLockerKey

My hard disc C: was locked after running some standard commands like:
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
sfc /scannow
chkdsk /v /f /r C:
shutdown /r
Now  my Windows Recovery routin ask me for BitLocker Key, which I don't have (it's not om my Microsoft account, not printed, and not under Active Directory. Is there any way to save som files before reinstalling Windows?
(boot from USB with notepad.exe from shell cannot copy maps from C: to USB)

Hi,

There is a known problem with the latest W10 update. Running a check disk messes up Windows.

I can't say if your specific issue relates to this Microsoft Update issue.

I would connect the OS disk to a different PC to see if you can mount the disk. I don't know what the out come will be if you are using BitLocker. I don't use BitLocker.

I create disk image backups using Macrium Reflect free to avoid such situations.

You could try a previous Windows restore point if you use this option.

using bitlocker is  2 edged sword.  a hard cold fact.,  and makes daily updates needed or loss of data is assured.

ask how to fix it at microsoft.com it is there baby,  100% theirs.

that is my only advice,  Id never use it. (but some must like DOD./CIA,/NSA. etc.)

Thanks for your hint. BitLocker locks one's hard drive totally, so the bit image will be locked as well. Fortunately, I finally found my key by first adding admin rights to my job MS-account, where the key was stored after my previous visits on Azure account.

I can only agree. It's close to suicide. The thing is that it seems to come activated with the delivery of my brand new PC and I missed deactivating it during the Windows activating process.

Since you're apparently back into the drive now, then next thing you should do is open the Bitlocker Management function and both print and save off the key.  This way, you will have it the next time you need it.
