Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

Several controllers are missing after I reinstalled Win 7 Pro using windows recovery disc and drivers from HP Recovery disc. According to Device Manager these are:

  1. Ethernet Controller
  2. PCI Simple Communcations Controller
  3. SM Bus Controller
  4. Universal Serial Bus (USB) Controller

Any ideas on where I can get these? When I looked on HP website I found a long list of Ethernet controllers for my model and don't know which to choose, that is one problem. I couldn't find any of the other controllers on the website.

Your advice would be welcome.

Hi:

You need these drivers...

SM Bus Controller  Install this one first, and restart the PC.

Ethernet Controller:

Many thanks Paul for your quick response. Just before seeing your message I tried installing from the HP Driver Recovery disc for the second time (on a hunch), and lo and behold there were no missing controllers when I checked Device Manager afterwards! I didn't do anything differently compared to the first time.

If I have any further problems I will try your solutions. Thank you for your time and effort.

You're very welcome.

Sounds to me like the drivers got installed, and you shouldn't have any issues with what you did.
