Yes! Always good to have a spare.
I'm not sure it was the fan I was hearing. Since I've been using my laptop, I'm seeing high memory usage, similar to what I was seeing on my desktop. It's revving pretty often. I'm starting to think it's the browser. There's been an insane increase in hacking over the last year or two. And tracking on browsing activity is off the charts. I block as much as I can but this isn't my forte so I usually end up blocking things I need and have to backtrack. I'm using Brave currently, but I see the same issues with Edge. And I'm pretty sure QuickBooks has something going on as well. Super high memory killer. I guess I should increase the memory to see if it helps.

Yes, if your PC has an empty memory slot, add another 8 GB DDR4-2400 memory chip in the empty slot.

If you want to max it out you can install 2 x 16 GB of memory in your PC:

The links below are showing a 3200 and 2400 memory chip. Will either work or do I have to use the 2400? When I check the specs online, it said 3200, but that wasn't my specific computer. HP doesn't allow you to look at the specs when the warranty is expired. I can't even print a manual.

Hi:
Either will work fine.
The DDR4-3200 MHz memory will automatically bridge to 2400 MHz, but there would be no advantage to installing DDR4-3200 MHz memory unless you planned on using it in a newer PC in the future that could actually run the DDR4-32000 MHz memory at 3200 MHz.
The parts list for your PC indicates that HP installed either a 4 GB DDR4-2400 MHz memory chip or a DDR4-2666 MHz memory chip.
I guess it depended on what they had on hand at the time.
