This morning my computer did a bios update on its own when I turned it on.  Now I can't boot the computer.  I need a recovery disk.  Does anyone know where I can get one?

Thanks for any help you can give me!

The failure code your PC generated means you have to install a new NVMe SSD and then you can use the HP cloud recovery tool to reinstall Windows on it.

If you would like to install a larger capacity drive than the 256 GB drive it came with, I recommend this one:

Amazon.com: SAMSUNG 980 SSD 1TB PCle 3.0x4, NVMe M.2 2280, Internal Solid State Drive, Storage for P...

You double click on the cloud recovery tool file you downloaded to install it on your other PC.

Your PC is supported by the HP cloud recovery tool which you can use to create a bootable USB recovery drive that will reinstall Windows, the drivers and the software that originally came with your PC.

Here is an info link for how to use the utility.  You will need a 32 GB USB flash drive for this.

You can download the software from the link below:

HP Cloud Recovery Tool - Free download and install on Windows | Microsoft Store

Since you have to install the cloud recovery tool on another PC as yours is not working, you will have to enter your PC's product number in the tool's search window in order to proceed.

Your PC's product number is 5QB22AA#ABA

Thank you! I'll give it a try.  I'll use the USB option.

You're very welcome.

I was able to run some tests and got the following hard disk error.  Hopefully the USB recovery disk works.

Updated: I found the answer to this question.  There's a video with instructions.  Wish me luck!

How does the computer I need to recover know what's on the USB drive?  I see this the instructions, but I won't be able to see the downloads folder from the computer I'm repairing.

We've downloaded an executable to help you install HP Cloud Recovery Tool. Open this file in your downloads to begin installation.

So the hard drive failed.  But what caused the BIOS update to run?  I didn't do it, it just started on its own.

HP Recommended

On some of these newer PCs, the BIOS updates are pushed to the Microsoft Windows update program by the PC manufacturers.

Thanks!  I'll have to make sure that feature is not enabled.  It's weird that the hard drive failed right after the BIOS update.  Coincidence?  I don't know.  I can say that I've been having freezing issues, so there could be some bad sectors on the drive.

Thank you again!

PS: I ordered the hard drive you recommended.  You can't beat the price for a 1TB SSD.
