Greetings @jaketothebone

I have one additional item to check if Device Manager looks good and you can't update the audio driver.

Can't say if doing this will correct the problem.

The following procedure has fixed this problem on my PCs after an operating system update or a graphics driver update. The graphics driver update flips audio to the graphics audio driver.

You then lose audio output.

Check Sound in Control Panel. Verify default audio playback is set to the correct device.

Regards

I tried to remove completely the driver, at restart  (requested) finally hear beep from sound speaker bur after login Windows11 24H2 use same drivers and no sound .

Hope HP public new drivers as soon as possible!

We have the same issue on multiple HP Z1 Entry tower G5's, I managed to fix one by installing all sound devices in Device Manager and rebooting. This fix hasn't worked for other PC's with the sane issue.

I've managed to resolve this by uninstalling  and removing the Synaptics Drivers from the following categories in Device Manager:

Software devices

Sound, video and game controllers.

Next I reboot the PC and it resolves the issues.

I have the same issue on multiple devices that just upgraded to 24H2. I have tried the following:

  • Disabling/Stopping the Conexant Util services
  • Removing device/driver and rebooting
  • Reinstalling driver and rebooting
  • Run audio troubleshooter
  • Tried older driver

The only thing that "fixes it", very temporarily and it will go back to not working, is to remove the device and driver. It only takes about 3-5 minutes after logged back in before it stops working. This REALLY needs to be addressed by HP as it is an incompatibility with their audio driver utilizing Conexant.

After uninstalling the Device Manager > System devices > High Definition Audio Controller and restarting, still no sound. Then went to hp.com support > EliteDesk 800 G5 Desktop Mini PC > Software and drivers > Windows 11 23H2 (since no 24H2), downloaded the Driver-Audio > Synaptics HD Audio Driver (Version 8.65.319.200 Rev A, Release date Sep 25, 2024) file sp115227.exe. When downloading, it recommended using the Download and Install Assistant. But since HPIA indicated it did not have info for version 24H2 and HP Support Assist had not fixed the sound problem, I clicked on "No thanks, I will download and install manually". Executed sp115227.exe which put added the C:\SWSETUP:\sp115227 folder. In that folder, executed HPUP.exe but nothing seemed to happen. So opened folder src\driver\ and executed Setup64.exe which opened up an installation window. Ran the installation, it ended successfully, restarted the computer, and now have sound!

Hope this works for others. And hope HP releases Windows 11 Version 24H2 Sofware and drivers soon for all of their 24H2 compatible machines. And hope HP updates HPIA and HP Support Assistant to update any drivers needed for 24H2. I'm also putting the above info into any other HP Community entries I've seen about no sound after 24H2.

I had the same problem. Sound through the PC speakers or headphones was not working after most recent Windows update.

I finally found this solution:

Device Manager (Windows key + X

Expand Sound Video and Game controllers

Right-click the audio driver (in my case Synaptics HD audio}

Select uninstall driver.

Follow prompt to remove the driver from you device.

Restart.

Windows then automatically somehow reinstalled working drivers.

Thanks for reply, I just tried your method but after a power stand by or at restart or after poweroff then powerup in minutes audio not work again. Is the same for you ? Is it solved permanently ?

Sound has been working since Wednesday, 1/29, around 6 pm Pacific (now Friday, 1/31, around 9:30 am). Sorry to hear it didn't work for you. Guess I was lucky. We just need HP to release Windows 11 24H2 drivers for all of our models that can run Windows 11.
