OMEN 30L Desktop PC GT13-1000i (1S3R9AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

I’ve been intermittently having issues with my PC for a couple of weeks. It will randomly freeze up where I can't use the keyboard or mouse and I can't enter task manager, so I have to turn it off using the main power button. There doesn't seem to be a particular reason why this happens - it can occur at any time, for example when I’m using Microsoft word, browsing the web, or playing video games, so it doesn’t seem to be just down to stress on the processor. A green light usually appears when it happens (on the motherboard I think - see pic), but there have been times when it hasn't. I ran some hardware diagnostic tests as recommended by the HP website, all of which passed.

One time when this happened when I rebooted the PC, there was an error message saying the "The CMOS checksum is invalid. The CMOS will reset to the default configuration, and the computer will restart. Afterwards, please check the BIOS setup options to see if they change." I then proceeded to restart the computer, which failed to boot up several times, and when it did, I had to use a recovery key to get back in. I haven't checked the BIOS as per the error message, as I don't know what I am looking for. Any help would be appreciated.

hi

you seem to have different problems, related or not I can't tell!
But for the Cmos error, usually it's a bios problem.

I could not tell you to try, it is possible that it is already following an update of the bios, carried out?
If you are still under warranty I advise you to contact hp directly!

the message may be different, in rare cases, it may be the battery, but with a recent computer, seems less likely to me!
the least risky to test in any case!

Hi

An invalid CMOS checksum error usually suggests a BIOS corruption problem. You're also experiencing system instability when using Windows.

The green LED on the MB could be a diagnostic tool. You would have to check the MB silkscreen near the LED to see if a specific component failure is indicated. Typical component checks are: CPU, RAM, VGA, Boot.

There are a couple of simple things you can do to troubleshoot the problem:

Disconnect AC power. Depress the power button to drain residual MB power.

Remove the CR2032 MB battery. Wait about 5 minutes. Install a new MB battery. This will reset CMOS.

Update the BIOS. There are two possible MBs used with this product (1S3R9AV). Please provide a specific product number

I would think you have a deeper hardware problem if the above steps don't fix the problem. Possibly a component problem or a power delivery problem. This would require HP factory service if you are in warranty.

You could back up data. Reinstall Windows or do a HP Cloud Recovery. I am leaning towards a hardware problem when you see CMOS checksum errors.

I prefer to insist!
@VictoriaN94
before trying to update the bios, you will already need to know, if it has not already been done
and what is your version up
since you seem to have many problems, if you start the bios update again, two possibilities, it works, miracle, no more worries, in this case so much the better!
But if it ever doesn't work, the result could be catastrophic!
So above all, save your personal data quickly!

since you have a big problem, a windows recovery should only be done after backups, the computer may not restart as well!
Contact HP if you are under warranty, before any handling
