Currently using Pavilion F1503 analog monitor with a S5-1060 (Win 7 64b) slimline box, with AMD Radeon HD 6450 graphics, without issue.
Attempting to upgrade to monitor ZR2740w IPS LCD. Connected via DVI cable. Downloaded and attempted to install the drivers in 'SP54516' from the HP site, to 'C:swsetup>Monitors' . Ran 'HP Display Installer'. Have tried several times now to install them, but after about 20 seconds, either receive a message that the install 'may have not been successful', or no indication of successful completion.
Upon booting up, the new monitor is not recognized whatsoever, and maintains a black screen, after trying various configurations (ie disconnecting F1503, etc) . There is no issue with the function of the monitor itself as I saw it demo'ed on another system.
Not sure where to proceed from here with diagnosis or correction. Any thoughts are most appreciated. Thanks.

So now I need to change the title of the message to 'Monitor will not display despite OS recogniition of the .INF for the new monitor.
I followed these steps to change the OEM driver 'Generic PnP driver' to the .inf driver associated with the new monitor, "HP_ZR2740w.inf" (from the Readme associated with the ZR monitor download):
MICROSOFT WINDOWS 7 BASIC, HOME, PROFESSIONAL, ENTERPRISE and ULTIMATE EDITIONS
1. Attach HP monitor directly to your computer.
2. Restart your computer.
3. Click on START -> CONTROL PANEL.
4. Click on "Adjust screen resolution" option under the "Appearance and Personalization" section.
5. Click on the "Advanced settings" text.
6. Click on the MONITOR tab.
7. Click on the PROPERTIES button.
8. IF the USER ACCOUNT CONTROL window appears, click on the YES button.
9. Click on the DRIVER tab.
10. Click on the UPDATE DRIVER... button.
11. Select "Browse my computer for driver software" option.
12. Select "Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer" option.
13. Click on HAVE DISK... button.
14. Click on the BROWSE... button and navigate to the following directory:
c:\Swsetup\Monitors\HP_ZR2740w_1.0\Files
15. Select the "HP_ZR2740w.inf" file and click the OPEN button.
16. Click on the OK button.
17. Click on the NEXT button.
18. Click on the CLOSE -> CLOSE -> OK -> OK buttons to exit.
PLUG AND PLAY COMPATIBILITY:
HP monitors are Microsoft Windows Plug and Play compatible.
HP monitors will work correctly without their INF and ICM files installed.
With the monitor attached directly to your computer, and without the INF file installed,
Microsoft Windows 2000 and Microsoft Windows XP operating systems will recognize
your monitor as a "Plug and Play Monitor." Microsoft Windows Vista and Microsoft
Windows 7 operating systems will recognize your monitor as a "Generic PnP Monitor".
The correct resolutions will be available in the Windows Display control panel.
So now all appears to be PARTIALLY expected on the s/w side. When displaying 'Advanced settings' under 'Control Panel>All Control Panel items>Display>Screen Resolution', the proper driver and associated specs for the ZR are appearing as likely would be expected. The F1503 also continues to display BUT there is still a black screen on the ZR.
Also, at the 'Display' screen, only the F1503 is showing as monitor 1, along with it's resolution characteristics. Nothing related to the ZR. I have restarted Windows and also unplugged/replugged the monitor.

Your computer's specifications: https://support.hp.com/ca-en/document/c02863023
Your monitor's specifications: https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c02974836
states: Input connectors --- (1) DisplayPort connector; (1) Dual-Link DVI connector.
Are you using the monitor's OSD (On Screen Display) to choose which "input" is to be the active input?
Also, a few months ago, Microsoft released a "bad" update that affected AMD graphics-adapters, resulting in:
(1) switching from "high-resolution" settings on the first monitor to "low-resolution", e.g., 800-by-600
(2) disabling of a secondary monitor.
Fortunately, Microsoft released a corrective update in December 2017.
So, run Windows Update, reboot, and then see if Windows will again "see" the second monitor.

I checked Windows Update, and there was an optional AMD graphics update to be installed, fronm 3/21/16. Don't know why it might have appeared just recently, but I did apply it. No change to the situation with the monitors, however. It did change the color scheme on the F1503. There remains an apparent schizophenic recognition of the two monitors in various Control Panel displays.
I have been repeatedly trying the 'Source' button on the front of the ZR, thinking as you have that there is an issue with recognizing the correct input. There is still no visible display on the ZR when hitting 'Source' button at various states. The ZR27 does not have an OSD menu.

That's not the one I was referencing, which was released on December 18, 2017.

So I looked at the Msft Catalog of Updates for AMD and Radeon, this is what it has:
https://www.catalog.update.microsoft.com/Search.aspx?q=radeon
Nothing in year 2017 of relevance.....
Also, though the web page suggestsd OSD menu, there is not one in fact

On December 18, 2017, Microsoft released an update for the problem with AMD Radeon graphic adapters, for both Windows 10 '1703' and '1709' versions.
See:
for details. Just run Windows Update, to get the update.

Thank you for the interest and help with my issue, mdklassen.
It turns out the final answer was a h/w/comm issue than s/w. I added a DVI to HDMI converter plug to the end of the DVI cable and plugged it into the S5's HDMI output. The screen lit up immediately, and has been performing as expected since.
