Omen 16

Hello,

I hope I can find some help. My Omen 16 automatically locks itself when playing games. Here’s a video that better explains my issue. https://youtu.be/3sfXjgvt_bU

After reviewing the logs, I noticed entries related to HP Comm Recovery under applications and Logon - Special Logon - Logon UI under security. I’ve formatted my computer twice to make sure there’s no program causing this issue, but the problem persists. There are no issues when using the computer for non-gaming activities. As you can see, the system suddenly goes to sleep, the computer becomes unresponsive, and it’s easier to manually power off the PC.

Hi @Aomezii53,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand your HP Omen 16 is having issues specifically related to gaming, where it locks itself or goes to sleep unexpectedly.

Here are a few troubleshooting steps you can try:

Check Power Settings:

  • Go to Settings > System > Power & sleep.
  • Ensure that the sleep settings are appropriately set for both "On battery power" and "When plugged in." Adjust the "Turn off the screen" and "Put the computer to sleep" settings to your preference, especially while plugged in.

Update Drivers:

  • Make sure all your drivers, especially graphics drivers, are up-to-date. Go to the HP Support website and download the latest drivers for your Omen 16, or use a tool like GeForce Experience (for NVIDIA) or AMD Radeon Software to check for updates.

Check for Overheating:

  • Overheating can cause the system to lock or shut down to prevent damage. Ensure that your laptop's cooling system is working properly, and clean any vents or fans if necessary. You might want to use a cooling pad to help with temperature management.

Review System Logs:

  • Since you noticed logs related to HP Comm Recovery and Logon UI, it might be useful to investigate further. Check the Event Viewer for more details on the exact error messages or warnings around the time your system locks up. Look under Windows Logs > System and Application to see if there are any specific errors or warnings.

Disable Fast Startup:

  • Sometimes, Fast Startup can cause issues. Go to Control Panel > Power Options > Choose what the power buttons do > Change settings that are currently unavailable, and uncheck Turn on fast startup.

Check for Conflicting Software:

  • Even though you've formatted the computer, ensure that no gaming-related software or system tweaks are conflicting. Sometimes, overlays or game optimization tools can cause issues.

BIOS/UEFI Update:

  • Check if there is a BIOS update available for your Omen 16. An update can sometimes fix hardware-related issues. Visit the HP Support website for any available updates.

Test in Safe Mode:

  • Boot into Safe Mode and run your games to see if the issue persists. This can help determine if the problem is related to a specific driver or software.

Check for Malware:

  • Run a full system scan using a reliable antivirus or anti-malware program to ensure that no malicious software is affecting your system’s performance.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Hello, first of all I have just carried out some tests, I turn on Rocket League and as usual the computer locks itself after a few minutes. So I wondered why for a few minutes. So I turned off my computer and let it cool down. I then launched the game with as little graphics as possible 30fps low... No problem! it worked very well for 30 minutes, my test session. and then tested to put the game in unlimited ultra graphics. I was at 350 fps in ultra. The bug started 5 seconds later...
So there is a problem with overheating or with the computer's graphics card (RTX 4070 for info)... I look at the overheating first.
