Omen PC 880-029
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

This morning I wanted to remove some software I did not use anymore.  Using my great wisdom I decided to do a restore to go back to before I had installed the software.  Since then nothing works.  One message says Critical process died, another says Boot device not found.  Finally the computer says Startup repair cannot repair your PC.

I have a couple of backups, one made with Acronis.  With my limited knowledge I cannot get anything going.   I would greatly accept any help I can get,  Thank you

Hi:

The only suggestion I can offer would be to try clean installing W10.

To reinstall W10...Use the Media Creation Tool.

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10

You can make a W10 USB flash drive installer using an 8 GB flash drive using another Windows PC, since your PC is not working.

W10 will work with the product key in the BIOS, install and automatically activate once you are connected to the internet.

Here are the steps to create the W10 USB flash drive installer...

  1. Select Download tool now, and select Run.
  2. If you agree to the license terms, select Accept.
  3. On the What do you want to do? page, select Create installation media for another PC, and then select Next.
  4. Select the language, edition, and architecture (64-bit or 32-bit) for Windows 10. You want 64 bit.

  5. Select which media you want to use:
  6. USB flash drive.  Plug in a blank USB flash drive with at least 8GB of space. Any content on the flash drive will be deleted.

Then you can install the drivers and available software from the PC's support page.

Thank you your suggestions were great and woke my computer up more than what I was doing.   But, now I kept getting the error message I needed to format EFI system as FAT 32.  While trying to see what that was I lost all the partions.  All i'm getting now is a message from HP in a small square that says Got Critical.

Can I get or make partions?

You're very welcome.

The only suggestion I can offer would be to reinstall W10 again.

At this window pictured below, delete all partitions, leaving one large partition, format the partition and hopefully W10 will install and run without future mishaps.  Highlight each partition and click on the X (delete) icon shown in the picture.

I'm afraid I am in deep trouble.  Win reinstall does not function.  When I start my Omen now, I am presented with a red screen and at the top it says: c:\Administrator: X:\Windows\System32\cmd.exe

First line says Critical error detected.....

 -No partition found.

 -No process script found.

Unknown error.....

Hi:

That doesn't sound good at all.

Is there a hard drive diagnostics test you can run to see if the hard drive failed?

Sounds like Windows can't find a hard drive to install on.

Sorry no, but I have spare drives I could always try one that I know works.  Is this feasable?

Yes, I would try one of those and see if you can get W10 to install on it.
