Don't know why but I walked away from computer with my flash drive in it. It came up with blue screen that said "Your PC couln't start property. An unexpected I/O erro has occured" with the above error ode. Then says, "This problem can happen when a removable storage device is removed while it's in use or is failing. Properly connecting any removable storage and restarting your PC may fix this problem." The following are the facts:
- My flash drive was never removed;
- I tried putting in a few different flash drives but it did not fix it;
- Tried Enter (to try again) but nothing, then F8 (Startup Settings) but it will not take me to anyhing; and
- Nothing is wrong with my flash drive because I have used it in my laptop for over 3 weeks after the issue started.
Appreciate any help that you can provide...

Welcome to the HP Forums!
Thank you for posting your query on this forum, it's a great place to find answers.
I reviewed your post and I understand that you are getting an error on your computer.
Don’t worry, I assure you I will try my best to get this sorted.
In order that I may provide you with an accurate solution, I will need a few more details.
- When was the last time the computer was working fine?
- Are you able to boot to Windows?
- Have you tried removing the flash drive and then booting to Windows?
- Have you performed any troubleshooting steps before posting?
Meanwhile, I recommend you follow the below steps and check if it helps.
From the error code mentioned in the above post, you may be facing this issue due to the hardware incompatibility or the faulty device drivers installed in the PC. When a device driver is faulty or not working properly, it can be identified by the yellow exclamation mark on the driver inDevice Manager. Most of the time updating the faulty drivers will help in resolving the issue.
Method 1: Removing the external device and updating the faulty device drivers.
Step 1: I suggest you remove all the external devices connected to your PC except for mouse and keyboard and check if you are able to boot and login into the PC.
If your PC should start without any issues, connect the disconnected external device one after the other and check which device is causing the conflict. Update the driver software of that particular device which caused the issue and check if the issue is resolved.
Step 2: To update the faulty device driver, follow the steps below:
- Press Windows key + X keys on the keyboard and click on Device Manager.
- Expand the faulty device driver option (check for the driver with yellow exclamation icon).
- Right click on the driver and select Update.
- Follow the on-screen instructions.
- Close the window and check if the changes are effective.
Method 2: If the issue persists, I suggest you check if the similar issue persists in Safe mode.
Safe mode is a diagnostic mode that starts your computer with limited drivers necessary to run Windows. The words Safe Mode appear at the corners of your monitor to identify which Windows mode you are using.
Expand the options to boot into Safe Mode:
Restart the PC to exit from Safe mode and start the computer in normal mode.
Let me know how it goes and you have a great day!
If the solution provided helps, please mark this as “Accepted Solution” as it will help several others with the same issue to get it resolved without hassles. Your feedback counts!
Take care.
Cheers!
