@SA8866,

Welcome to our HP Community forum!

I got good news for you from outside the HP Reservation:

Your HP Pavilion Gaming Desktop TG01-2xxx platform as fitted with the Stark motherboard (SSID: 8860) is also compatible with all "K" processors -and apparently all 10th gen Intel Core processors, as this brave User showed, who fitted an Intel Core i5-10600K (6-Cores, 12-Threads, 4.10 GHz up to 4.80 GHz, 125-watt TDP) in their rig: https://www.userbenchmark.com/UserRun/66700549.

This means that these fine "K" processors are also on the menu, so to speak: i5-10600K (6-Cores, 12-Threads, 4.10 GHz up to 4.80 GHz, 95-watt TDP), i7-10700K / i7-10700KF (8-Cores, 16-Threads, 3.80 GHz up to 5.10 GHz, 125-watt TDP) and: i9-10900K / i9-10900KF (10-Cores, 20-Threads, 3.70 GHz up to 5.30 GHz, 125-watt TDP).

Since these processors all have just 125-watt TDPs, I don't think you'll have to worry about throttling the power to any of these processors like I had to with an i7-12700KF (TDP up to 190-watt) in my HP Pavilion TP01-3003w upgrade project to 150-watt, using the freeware program QuickCPU: Solved: Upgrading an HP Pavilion TP01-3003W (318K3AA) - HP Support Community - 9254350.

Hope this was helpful!

Kind Regards,

@SA8866,

Only other thing to upgrade once you upgrade to a "K" processor, would be a better CPU heatsink/cooling fan combo, and perhaps adding additional case cooling fans like I did in my TP01 3xxx upgrade project as shown in my link.

Thank you very much for the information and answer. So in theory, my motherboard can also fit the Intel Core i9-10900F?

@SA8866,

Not just in theory, based on the Userbenchmark documentation, 10th gen Intel processors are indeed compatible with the Stark motherboard (SSID: 8860), meaning that the low 65-watt TDP i9-10900F is absolutely compatible with your PC!

@SA8866,

Let's recap this discussion:

The Stark (SSID: 8860) motherboard uses the Intel H570 chipset, which natively supports both:

  • 10th Gen (Comet Lake-S)

  • 11th Gen (Rocket Lake-S)

without any special hardware mods — only BIOS microcode support is needed.

Here’s a quick technical breakdown:

  • H570 is part of Intel’s 500-series.

  • Intel officially designed H570 to be compatible with:

    • 10th Gen Core i3/i5/i7/i9 (Comet Lake-S)

    • 11th Gen Core i3/i5/i7/i9 (Rocket Lake-S)

  • HP, being a big bad OEM, often limits advertised support to just the newer generation (11th Gen) to simplify warranty/support processes.

  • But the actual hardware + BIOS are fully capable of booting and running 10th Gen processors — as observed.

Real-World Example (from the aforementioned UserBenchmark link):

HP Stark 8860 + Intel Core i7-10700K = (successfully working)

Why it works:

  • H570 chipset supports the i7-10700K.

  • BIOS on Stark 8860 probably already contains the microcode for Comet Lake (10th Gen).

  • No hardware barriers (socket is still LGA 1200).

In short:

Discovered something that HP doesn't advertise:

➡️The HP Stark H570 motherboard absolutely supports both 10th and 11th Gen CPUs.

Kind Regards,
