HP Pavilion TouchSmart All In one Model #23-1317c

I am getting the No Boot Disk Detected error message at startup and fear the HDD is shot. I am going to replace it with an SSD. How do I get Windows 10 on the new disk? No backup or Windows disk came with the computer and I have no clue how to get the OS onto the replacement drive.

Hi:

You can reinstall W10 by making a bootable USB installation flash drive using the Media creation tool at the link below.

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10

After W10 has completed installing, you can install the drivers and available software from your PC's support page.

Hello
if it is no longer possible to create the recovery kit
you can try this:

https://support.hp.com/ca-en/document/c06162205

otherwise, directly from windows, download the iso, and create a reinstallation media

Thank you. That is very helpful. How do I get the ms product key in order to create this tool? All I get is black screen and I can't find any data including with the purchase paperwork that includes the Windows Product Key. And a correction to my earlier info, the HP-23 came loaded with 8 not 10.

no need for the activation key it is registered in the system

You're very welcome.

The product key is in the BIOS.

You don't need it to reinstall W10.

Just make sure that when you get to the list of W10 versions to install, you install the version that came with your PC--probably W10 Home.

Since you upgraded the PC to W10, if you are asked to enter a product key during the installation process, select the 'I don't have a product key' option, and W10 will install and automatically activate once you are connected to the internet.

I downloaded the MS 8.1 download. It is a 4GB file. It will not fit on any of four 32GB thumb drives that are clear. I have no idea if any of this will work or not in the end, because every intermittent phase of it fails.

I don't understand why you are wanting to DL the W8.1 file.

If you use the W10 Media creation tool from the link I posted this morning, it automatically creates a bootable USB flash drive for you.

Have it create the 64 bit installation media.  All it needs is an 8 GB flash drive, so 32 GB should be fine.

No need to tinker with any ISO files.

Thank you very much.
