HP Pavilion 590-p0054
Microsoft Windows 10 (32-bit)

An auto update left me with the "restarting your computer" for hours. Online advice had me shut it off , unplug it , plug it back in.

I got the Device needs to be repaired. The digital signature couldn't be verified. Error code: 0xc0000428.

Options: Press F1 to enter Recovery Environment  OR Press Esc for UEFI Firmware Settings   LAN

At a total loss, here.

According to this, it is caused by

The image that was used to build the VM was a preview image with an expiration date rather than an RTM (Release to Manufacturing) image.

Assuming that is bogus info, then look at this

Sorry @Prométhée   That might post might duplicate your info.  I am not used to this new forum layout that does not show replies in the opening screen

This is in response to Promethee, who didn't accept replies, not to you.

I tried the restart F8, several times. Same screen "Recovery- Your PC/Device needs to be repaired......

"Press F1" to enter Recovery Environment (and when I press F1, it goes back to the "Recovery....." screen)

"Press ESC for UEFI Firmware Settings" which offers me THIS menu:

Startup Menu

F1   System Information  (Not helpful)

F2   System Diagnostics   (Got to Firmware Management: BIOS Update? or Rollback?, I chickened out, make matters worse?)

F9   Boot Device Options  (No options were 'selectable')

F10 BIOS Setup                  (Set Time and Date?  Default Setup?  Apply Defaults and Exit?  Ignore Changes and Exit?  ????)

F11 System Recovery       (Returns to the "Recovery......" screen

ENTER  -  Continue Startup  (And, OF COURSE - This takes me back to "Recovery.....")

Any ideas?

hi

"This is in response to Promethee, who didn't accept replies, not to you. "

sorry, what do you mean here?
I don't want to stay on a misunderstanding, that's not what I said, quite the contrary, I replied to @TheOldMan  that this answer did not bother me at all, even if as he thought, there was could be the same thing..

That said, whether in both answers there are proposed solutions, so it doesn't work at all?
as for example in my link:
this case, boot into Safe Mode using the command line. This requires administrator rights.

Here are the commands you need to enter (press Enter after each command):

1.bootrec /fixMBR

And the one of @TheOldMan
4. Then you'll be asked to choose an account to continue. Next, in the Command Prompt window, type these one by one and press Enter key after each:

VS:

cd-boot

-----------------------

please perform the hardware tests
everything is explained in this link

HP PCs - Testing for Hardware Failures | HP® Customer Support

An example of a failed test with Contact HP option

you may have an error code , failure ID (24-digit code) , as shown

if so, just give this code here
