I tried to fully reset my PC using the HP recovery tool, but for some reason it failed, and gives me the recovery attempt has failed window. I tried again by remaking the recovery file on the usb using another computer, but it still failed. Advice? At the moment, I'm using the usb to download and reinstall windows 10, and then try to manually install any software or drivers still missing, but I don't know if it will work.

Hi:

Yes, since the W10 product key is encrypted in your PC's BIOS, you can make the plain W10 installation flash drive with the media creation tool from the link below.

Download Windows 10 (microsoft.com)

Then you can install the drivers and available software from your PC's support page.

There is one thing you can try before clean installing W10, and that is to set the date and time in your PC's BIOS to the 'Born on' date.

That is because some of that trial software included in the factory image has a 30-day expiration period and in some cases that messes with the recovery.

Several forum members have reported that using that workaround leads to a successful recovery.

I tried this, and changed the date to the born on date. Unfortunately this didn't work either and I get the error screen saying- Your PC/Device needs to be repaired

A required device isn't connected or can't be accessed.

Error code:0xc000000e

Once I press try again it gives me a different error saying-

The application of operating system couldn't be loaded because a required file is missing or contains errors.

File:\Windows\system32\winload.efi

I got to this screen and clicked install now initially, but after it failed I tried again and clicked repair your computer

Afterwards I got to this screen, and I just clicked continue to exit and continue to windows 10

Not sure why but for some reason this worked and windows seems to work fine. Thanks for the help though Paul, you are the best

You're very welcome.

Glad to read that you were able to get Windows to work again.

It doesn't work 😞 When restarting for system updates it threw the same error I listed above

I checked and I swore the system had the file that it said wasn't there, but I had already wiped the USB to transfer backup files I had.

In the middle of typing this it decided to work?

After messing around a bit, any time the computer restarts it throws the error from above but if I use the startup menu and go to boot device options and boot using default or windows boot manager (which should be the default it will work for some reason.

So basically it works but not properly. The only thing I can think of is to try and reinstall windows again
