Would like to remove Recovery Image from (D:) as I no longer using Windows 8 or 8.1. When I try to install my Buffalo backup it states that the backup utility already installed. I have Windows 10 64-bit operating system that I am using right now.

Hi @D_O_C,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
To remove the Recovery Image (D:) from your HP Pavilion Desktop PC after upgrading to Windows 10, you can follow these steps.
Backup Important Data:
Ensure you back up any important files from the Recovery Image (D:) drive before proceeding.
Check Disk Management:
- Press Windows + X and select Disk Management.
- Locate the Recovery Image (D:) partition.
Delete the Recovery Partition:
- Warning: Deleting a partition will remove all data on it. Make sure you have backups of any important files.
- In Disk Management, right-click on the Recovery Image (D:) partition.
- Select Delete Volume. Confirm the deletion.
Extend the Main Partition:
- After deleting the Recovery Image (D:) partition, you may want to extend your primary partition to use the freed-up space.
- Right-click on the partition you want to extend (usually C:) and select Extend Volume.
- Follow the prompts to allocate the unallocated space to your primary partition.
Remove Any Remaining Backup Utilities:
- Go to Control Panel > Programs and Features.
- Look for any backup utilities or applications related to Buffalo or the recovery partition.
- Uninstall them if they are no longer needed.
Clean Up:
- Open Disk Cleanup by searching for it in the Start menu.
- Select your primary drive (C:) and click on Clean up system files.
- Check for any files related to the old recovery image and clean them up.
Verify Backup Utility:
- If you encounter issues with the Buffalo backup utility, ensure it’s the latest version compatible with Windows 10.
- You may also need to uninstall and reinstall the utility if it's causing problems.
Notes:
- If the Recovery Image (D:) is a hidden or system partition, you might need administrative rights to manage it.
- Removing recovery partitions might prevent you from restoring your PC to its factory settings. Consider creating a new recovery drive or system image backup for future recovery needs.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
