Is there a way to reset the password in Windows Vista??? I have a Presario Compaq CQ50 notebook. It is my stepdaughter's old computer and of course she cannot remember the password to login. Any advice would greatly be appreciated.

Thanks,

Bob

There are utilities such as Offline NT that can reset passwords. It might be easier to just boot into Recovery and reinstall Windows if you don't have files you don't won't to lose. Recovery will reset the laptop back to factory state. To launch Recovery, start tapping or holding the F11 key immediately after powering on the laptop.

A lot of methods are available to recover or reset the Windows password. The famous Ophcrack is used for recovering the password. The big disadvantage of ophcrack is the large ISO file. We need to download a file of size 500MB to recover the password. And I have tested it ever,it actually can not dispay the password as the instruction says.

Another popular tool,Offline NT Password : http://home.eunet.no/pnordahl/ntpasswd/

If you have a bootable CD/USB drive, some password tools can be burn to it and you can boot your computer from USB to run the software,so that you can recover/remove WIndows 7/Vista/XP password perfectly from USB.
Such as Windows Password Rescuer, here I just list the simple steps:
Step 1: Download Windows Password Rescuer
Step 2: Run it to burn to bootable CD/DVD or USB flash drive
Step 3: BIOS setting of your locked computer to boot form CD or USB
Step 4: Reset Windows password on a friendly window after Windows Password Rescuer starts.

You also can use Windows Password Rescuer to add a new user with administrator privilege to your Windows without login. With this New user account you can logon your locked computer directly.

If you have password reset disk, you can use it t oreset your forgotten password. Or you could ask some one who have admin account on the computer to help you reset its password.

What's more, you can use a universal Windows  password recovery tool to recover it.

Or just to log into Windows Vista in Safe Mode using built-in administrator without password. Then you can reset your forgotten Windows Vista password easily in control panel. Refer this guide: Reset Windows Vista Home Premium Password in Safe Mode

If you still can find another computer you can access as administrator it will become so easy to reset Windows Vista password. On that accessible computer open the browser. Search Daossoft Windows Password Rescuer at Google and install it into the accessible computer. Just launch the program and follow its instruction to reset your password. It supports both administrator and user password. Not only does it work on Windows Vista, but also works on any other Windows such as Windows 7/8/8.1/XP .etc.
