hi tech support... to my dissatsfaction with HP im hoping tomreach out to someone that can help recover me as a customer.  my story/issue briefly.  i bought the hp23-p027c in hopes that this slim touch screen design wpuld serve me for years. However, just after 8/9 months of basic use the pc all of a sudden never turned back. I did not have time or energy to fuss with it so i boxed it up to open up jist recently and searched online a simple fix of resetting the cmos by removing the battery (really?)  once i fixed this issue i looked for a bios upgrade amd there it was, file 80.20 bios upgrade.  I followed the prompts and got a succesfull upgrade... Now for the real issue. It will not boot up now and stays stuck at the hp logo with ocassionally showing entering repair mode.  I found this is a common issue so i followed all of the intructions in hp forums. I downloaded the roll back 80.19 and created the usb boot device... i booted the pc to bios and configured to legacy and booted to  usb but got NO boot NO startup just a blinking cursor.  Ok went with the F2 and tried using the  HP system diagnostics screen (both pc version and usb version ) to flash bios firmware but ofcourse it didnt work because it says update failed bios image specified did not pass validation. Now i have a dead pc after i used hps bios update and wont recognize new bios firmware for validation reasons.  Please help i would hate to trash this pc or have to replace the motherboard which i did not break!

Have you tried to "roll-back" the BIOS?

The above web-page says "notebook" computers, but the content does apply to "desktop" and "All-In-One" systems.

What happens after you press ESC to "dismiss" that logo ?

While running that diagnostic, what was the result of running the test(s) for the disk-drive?

Hi there and thank you for responding. Yes I tried the roll back but when using the USB with the80.19 flash installed I got the validation error.  I even tried a new 80.20 file in case the 80.19 was corrupt.

When I hit esc I can enter into the Bios screen to select F2, F9, etc.. that's where I went to use the diagnostics and change boot order

When I ran diagnostic, I had success entering the bios firmware section both using the pc version and the usb version. However this is where I couldnt use the usb installed bios firmware both 80.19 and 80.20 as mentioned beforehand.  I tried the windows button plus B and V but of course for this pc that doesnt work.  There has to be a way to fix this issue without replacing the MB unless it bricked itself after the successful flash.

"i looked for a bios upgrade" BUZZZZZZZZ

there was the bad step

sorry was.

BIOS does not just walk off in the  the clouds (in fact has 100 year retention spec, hard proof ask; have it)

learn to leave BIOS alone until some offical at HP tells you it fixed  your exact problem. (it won't)

if the PC is dead we diagnose that first. not flash bios with the phases of the moon, ever. and voids warranty. gee.

4years old max 2014

so the RTC coin cell will not be dead making BIOS Go nuts,  as it will dead . page 31

http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c04123788

no symptoms stated at all just wont turn back on (on missing)

but i get you  but do not get you on all screen messages

are you saying the screen is 100% dead, and black at all times?  say so please.

all in one PC , do go dead ive heard, (mobos)

fan dead? is it , silent 100% ear to case? (this is a key symtom)

lookng at the rear, are any LED glowing there, or seen in vents on the rear???????

if not try a new AC pack. (cheap fix if lucky)

The computer contains an internal lithium
manganese dioxide battery."
did you replace it and the mouse and keyboard batteries, test them with  volt meter.?
in the same manual above

Please stop flashing BIOS, (my guess now it has the wrong one loaded, DOOMed

only HP has  solution and I am not HP, I have no BIOS files, nor want any.

NO warranty answers by me.

What is the result of running the disk-drive tests within the HP Hardware Diagnostics? Pass? Fail?

> It will not boot up now and stays stuck at the hp logo with occasionally showing entering repair mode.

Your motherboard has booted from the disk-drive, and Windows is showing the "entering repair mode" message.

So, that indicates that the motherboard, with the new BIOS, is OK, and that the disk-drive is not totally "dead".

However, the message indicates that something is wrong with the installed copy of Windows, either "logically" (corrupted file-system) or "physically" (bad recording surfaces).

For free, I would download Windows 10, from: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10

and create a bootable version.

Then,

  1. disconnect from the Internet,
  2. power-off the computer, and disconnect the AC power,
  3. remove the current disk-drive,
  4. connect a "spare" disk-drive,
  5. reconnect the AC power,
  6. try to install Windows onto that disk-drive. If the installer prompts you to enter the 25-character product-key, click "I do not have one".  Windows will continue to install, but it will not "activate".
  7. You now have a time-limited "test" version of Windows.

If you can successfully do the above, then both your motherboard and the "spare" disk-drive are OK.

That shifts the "suspicion" onto your current disk-drive, not the BIOS.

Hi there. Ok so I did the following:

I had a new hard drive stored and installed it.  I also downloaded the win10 onto a usb.  At first I thought I had success but that quickly reversed because I couldnt get the pc to boot from usb using legacy.  Ran a quick hardware scan and according to the check, the new but stored hard drive didnt pass the test. Meanwhi'e, I have all lights working both on the back by the plug, above by the power switch.  By the way I also replaced the cmos battery.  I went ahead and installed the old hard drive and tried again only to find the hp logo at starup.  Note: I couldnt get passed the hp logo with the other hard drive also.  My next step is running system extensive test and as of now I have 6:41 left but the hard drive checks out ok for now. See pic...

After this  I dont know what else to do other than order a new motherboard and take the old one pour some gasoline on it and torch it.  Not before my pc works again....

Thanks for all your help.

PS The repair mode I mentioned was with the hp logo not windows....WIN_20180523_002728.JPG

Final results this morning, all components passed.  Hit enter to start and got this as usual.  See pic below to showing the screen I started this whole thread about.  Cant get pass this screen.  Also, I downloaded the bios onto a brand new usb thinking maybe the other usb is bad but still says validation error.  Time to replace mb?WIN_20180523_090017.JPG
