My hard drive stopped working and i want to replace it with an SSD card. The problem is I apparently don't have a windows 10 usb thing and a lot of the things i've seen say you should back up everything on a usb card and then put that on ur SSD card. Can i still do that if my pc stopped working and is there a way to buy one of those things?

Hi:

It is probably too late for that, but you could see if you can read the contents of the failed hard drive by purchasing a SATA to USB adapter cable, plug it into a working PC's USB port and see if you can read/copy any data from it.

You can reinstall W10 for free by making a bootable USB W10 installation flash drive using the Media creation tool at the link below.

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10

Since your notebook originally came with W8.1 and you upgraded it to W10, if you are asked to enter a product key during the installation process, select the 'I don't have a product key' option, and W10 will install and automatically activate once you are connected to the internet.

After W10 has completed installing, you can install the drivers and available software from your notebook's support page.
