Product: HP ENVY Phoenix Desktop - 860-140

Hello, today I got a SMART error and was unable to boot, ultimately ending in an error saying no boot drive available and a red screen. If I replace the SSD do I also need to buy a fresh OS for my PC? Thanks!

Hi:

 

Your PC's product key is in the BIOS.

 

You can reinstall W10 for free by making bootable installation media with the media creation tool from the link below.

 

Download Windows 10 (microsoft.com)

 

Boot from the installation media.  Windows will automatically find the product key and install.

Thanks! I’m getting a new drive to tomorrow, fingers crossed it works. The PC was definitely getting up there in years but I haven’t had any major error messages and the first SMART error put me in a reboot loop until I got the red screen.
