About two weeks ago a system update removed my HP Scan (for my HP Printer) access from the screen, and there is no icon access anymore, and I would like it replaced back because I use it frequently in my work and business steps.

Hi @margaret1456

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

If a system update has removed the access to the HP Scan utility for your HP printer and you need it back, here are steps you can follow to restore or reinstall it:

Reinstall HP Printer Software:

  • Visit the HP Support website and search for your printer model.
  • Download and install the full feature software and drivers package. This package usually includes the HP Scan utility along with other essential components.

Check for HP Apps in Windows Store:

  • Go to the Microsoft Store and search for HP applications or drivers that might have been affected by the update.
  • Download HP Smart or any scanning apps related to your printer model.

Open HP Scan from Windows Search:

  • In the Windows search bar, type "HP Scan." If it's installed, it may still be available but just missing the shortcut.
  • If found, right-click and choose "Pin to Start" or "Pin to taskbar" for easier access.

Use HP Support Assistant:

  • Open HP Support Assistant by searching for it in the Windows search bar. It can help detect missing drivers or software and offer downloads for them.
  • Make sure your printer is connected to HP Support Assistant so it can provide you with necessary updates.

Create a Shortcut:

  • If HP Scan is accessible via a folder path, navigate to that folder, right-click the HP Scan executable, and select "Create shortcut."
  • Place this shortcut on your desktop or start menu for easier access in the future.

Driver Update:

  • Update your printer driver through the Device Manager. This can often re-establish any lost software functionality due to system updates.

By following these steps, you should be able to restore access to the HP Scan utility.
