Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi,

I am looking to buy this secnd hand but upon trying to inspect it, I have a problem.

When I switch on I am getting a series of beeps. They follow the sequence of 3 low type beeps followed by 4 high beeps. The sequence runs 5 times and then the Computer starts up but shows a Keyboard error, then the Windows 10 home screen.

The Touchscreen is unresponsive.

I have looked on the HP Support site and tried to follow the troubleshooting. When I look it appears, I thnk to be a Hardware problem . However  the troubleshooting section does not say that the Computer starts up, in their particular scenario, this does.

Should I avoid it or is it worth tring to fix?

Would appreciate your thoughts.

Hi! @wilsonpeter

Thank you for visiting the HP Forums! A great place where you can find solutions for your issues, with help from the community!

Don't worry I will try to help you out.

I understand you are getting series of beeps on your PC.

As you mentioned you are getting 3 short beeps and 4 long beeps on your PC.

I have checked the HP desktop beep code guide and I was unable to find such beep code.

However, I think you might be getting 3 short beeps and 1 long beeps on your PC.

Which indicates CPU failure.

To be on a safer side I would suggest you run system diagnostics on your PC and let me know the results.

Refer this article to know how to run system diagnostics.

Let me know if this works!

Have a wonderful day ahead! 🙂

Hi,

Thank you for your reply.

The sequence is 3 long bleeps followed by 4 shorter bleeps and that cycle goes 5 times. It then opens as it should with the welcome screen.

I have checked on the support site and the sequence is mentioned there as a Hardware problem !!

I am trying to follow the instructions and will see how it goes.

It is still under Warranty so should I contact HP for help ?

Best wishes

Peter

Hello again,

This is the link to the page I am looking at:

http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/bph07107

It assumes that the Computer does not start but mine does. When is goed through the sequence I mentioned in my last post it opens as it should.

It came without a wireless Keyboard and Mouse and I am using a wired set. Would that make a difference ?

Thank you

The link you sent for the system Diagnostics is for a Notebook and mine is a Pavilion Desktop. Is the proceedure the same or is it different ?
