Short Drive Self-Test failed

HP Recommended
HP Pavilion Elite HPE
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have been having trouble running backups and have recently been informed that my HD is having CRC errors. I have not noticed any problems outside of this development ( my system seems to be working fine) but as I noticed in another remark, the issue may be that my HD could also be failing. Granted, I could understand this as my machine is probably nearly 9 years old - not bad HP.  I ran System Test (Short Drive Self Test) and received this error:  Short Drive Self-Test failed. I presume my HD is having issues and that I may need to replace it so I am wondering what drive would be a good fit given my product; Pavilion HPE. I would really like to be sure that the existing cables will work. Please advise. Per my documentation I have WV428AV - 1.5TB 7200 rpm SATA 3G b/s hard drive. Further investigation shows that  it is a Seagate Barracuda 7200.11   ST31500341AS   P.N: 9JU138-622    Firmware: HP23.

Thank you, Steven

Greetings,

Welcome to the forum.

I am not a HP employee.

You should back up data ASAP. The HDD is failing.

Please remove the Hard disk 1 Quick Test Failure error code from your post.

You need a replacement HDD or SSD and will have to reinstall the operating system unless you have known good: operating system disk image backups and bootable recovery media.

Regards

Thanks for that info but I am looking for some direction as to what specific hard drive I can replace it with as I am not really a techie in this area and have not replaced a HD before. Could I just look for one that is SATA and that should accommodate my present cabling? There are all sorts of differences that I am unsure if I need to pay attention to - SATA II 3G b/s, SATA III 6G b/s, RPM (mine is 7200),  Cache size (goes between 32 and 256, mine is 64 I believe). Can anyone provide some input here?

Thanks, Steven

Hello
The tutorial is in French, but that can help to solve this problem

que faire en cas d' erreur / échec dst du disque dur - HP Support Community - 7338574

https://translate.google.fr/?hl=fr&tab=wT1
For the hard disk, it must be identical in the event of reinstallation with recovery kit
If you have another way to reinstall, it doesn't matter!
you can actually take the opportunity to install an SSD, the site here can also help:
