My log in screen is stuck. I can’t log in. I am clicking on my sign in tab and it won’t let me log in. I had it set up to facial recognition but nothing is working now

Hi @gmichelle1120,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your login screen is stuck and you're unable to log in to your HP Spectre x360 using facial recognition or any other method, try the following troubleshooting steps:

1. Force Restart Your Laptop

  • Perform a Hard Reboot:
    • Press and hold the Power button for about 10-15 seconds until the laptop powers off completely.
    • Wait a few seconds, then press the Power button again to restart the laptop.

2. Try Alternative Login Methods

  • Use a Different Login Option:
    • If facial recognition isn’t working, try switching to PIN, Password, or any other available login options.
    • On the login screen, there might be an option like Sign-in options or a small icon in the bottom-right corner where you can select an alternative sign-in method.

3. Boot into Safe Mode:

  • Restart your laptop and immediately start pressing the F8 key (or Shift + F8) repeatedly as it boots up. This should bring up the Advanced Boot Options menu.
  • Choose Safe Mode from the options. Safe Mode allows you to log in with a basic configuration and can help in troubleshooting issues.

4. Check for External Peripherals:

  • Disconnect any external devices (e.g., USB drives, external keyboards) that might be interfering with the login process.
  • Restart the laptop after disconnecting these devices and try logging in again.

5. Reset Facial Recognition Setup

  • Reset Facial Recognition:
    • If you can access the system through an alternative login method, go to Settings > Accounts > Sign-in options.
    • Remove and reconfigure the facial recognition setup if you are able to access it through another login method.

6. Update or Roll Back Drivers

  • If you gain access to your desktop through another login method, check for updates to your facial recognition drivers or other relevant drivers.
  • Go to Device Manager, find Biometric Devices or Imaging Devices, and check if there are any driver updates available.
  • If the issue started after a recent update, you might need to roll back the drivers to a previous version. This can be done through Device Manager by right-clicking the driver, selecting Properties, and then using the Roll Back Driver option if available.

7. Use Windows Recovery Options

  • Access Recovery Options:
    • Restart the laptop and hold down the Shift key while selecting Restart from the login screen. This will bring you to the Windows Recovery Environment (WinRE).
    • From here, you can try System Restore or Reset this PC if needed. System Restore can revert your system to a point before the issue occurred.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
