Switching on desktop

HP Pavilion 24-b212na. I now cannot switch my desktop on without first unplugging it from power supply and rec-connecting. I have replaced the power lead (with transformer) twice- not cheap, bought from a computer shop- without curing this problem. Any ideas please?

How old is your computer? Is your HP warranty still in effect?

Since you have changed the power-supply, without a solution, the most-likely cause is a failing motherboard.

HP may sell you a replacement "original-equipment" motherboard -- probably at a very-high price.

It may be time to purchase a new computer.

If you've replaced the power brick, then there's not much else you can do without replacing internal parts.

If it's still under warranty, then log a hardware warranty call. If you're in Australia, and it's outside of the 12months, cite the Australian consumer law. This should still get you a warranty call.

Otherwise, you'll just have to accept it as a new feature.

It's cost prohibitive to buy parts from HP to repair this unit.

What is the "transformer" please? is it for converting 110v to 220v for mains? If so, this is a possible cause.

This PC is an All-in-One -- and runs on DC current.  The "transformer" is precisely that -- it is the same kind of power "brick" that laptops use.

I replaced one of these for a 4-year old AIO a few weeks ago, but it only cost me $30 USD -- so that's not a lot of money to get the PC working again.

No, not solved. I had already done what was suggested. I think this is a software problem and I will have to live with it.
