Hi @Ja-19152,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand your laptop battery is no longer holding a charge and the computer only works when connected to the power adapter. Let’s go through a few steps to check what could be causing this.

Perform a power reset
Turn the laptop off and disconnect the charger.
Press and hold the Power button for about 15 seconds, then reconnect the charger and turn the laptop on.

Check battery health in HP diagnostics
Turn the laptop off.
Turn it back on and tap F2, then run Component Tests → Power → Battery.
This will show whether the battery has failed or needs replacement.

Generate a Windows battery report
Open Command Prompt and run powercfg /batteryreport.
Compare Design Capacity and Full Charge Capacity — a large difference indicates battery wear.

Check charging indicator behavior
While the charger is connected, confirm whether the charging LED stays on normally.
If the laptop works only on AC power, the battery cells may no longer accept a charge.

Update BIOS and power management drivers
Install the latest BIOS and chipset drivers from the HP driver page for your laptop model.
Firmware updates sometimes correct battery-detection issues.

I hope this helps.
