Pavilion all-in-one
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I forgot my password for my new HP Pavilion All-in-one. I was trying to set up "remote access" and realized I didn't have it. I can still access the PC with the "PIN" I set up so I am not locked out of the computer.

Bought a program that recovers passwords and loads from a USB drive. I made all the necessary changes to the secure boot. The USB boots, the program is ready to run but...

I do not have keyboard or mouse commands, no pointer, nothing. I've tried new Wired mouse and keyboard, still nohing,

the wired mouse doesn't have the light in it, the keyboard lights are also off. The is bascially no power going to the mouse or keybord for them to work.

I've switch settings in the BIOS, even tried a different program for recovering passwords,

Dose anyone have an idea on what needs to be done to make the software work?
Thank you

End of the day....

Iseepassword.com,

loads, mouse and keyboard support, Blanks passwords so you can reset all of them.

When loading has the W10 Logo

Also starts out with the "Hello" screen when windows reloads so the Desktop changes to the default. I reeneter all the passwords and PINS without any problems

easy to work, easy to understand, $29.95

I looked at the UBUNTU live disc, which I've used several times to access HD's that are in the verge of failure. I believe that would have done the trick also, Just wanted to try and easier way before going through all the UBUNTU steps.

Thank you for all the education,

Exactly which model of computer do you have?

Some HP motherboards only have USB 3 ports -- no USB 1 nor USB 2 ports.

So, when you boot from the USB device, there is no support for your USB keyboard and mice.

Does the motherboard have the older-style "PS/2" sockets for a keyboard and a mouse?

What you can do is to remove the disk-drive from your computer.

Take an "older" computer, namely one with "older" USB sockets, and disconnect the power/data cables from its disk-drive.

Connect the disk-drive from your All-In-One.

Boot the computer from your USB stick, and use the software.

Return the disk-drive to your All-In-One computer.

HP Pavilion All-in-One - 27-a250qd is right from my order,

This is about 2 months old, came with a wireless keyboard/mouse and a doogle (ant) to plug into a USB port.

There are only USB ports, no PS2 ports anywhere I can see on the back, side or bottom. So, trying not to sound to uneducated here, if I were to try loading the software via the USB into a USB 3 port, it might work. I ask because I needed additional USB ports to be able to load files unto a USB drive for my CNC machines. I bought a extended USB/SHD card reader which is where I plugged the USB with the software into. I belive it is a USB2 port!

I have the option of loading the same software on a CD/DVD and booting from that drive.

I'll give a few things a try tomorrow. I load the software from a port in the back of the computer, and then try a CD/DVD and see what happens. Like I said, this has become more of a I want to solve the problem, and not a crucial situation where I can't access the computer.

Thoughts welcome I

Ports:    1 USB 3.0 (Type-C™); 2 USB 3.0; 2 USB 2.0;

Try plugging a USB keyboard and a USB mouse in those two USB 2.0 ports -- avoiding those USB 3.0 ports.

USB 3 ports might have a blue-coloured "key" inside the socket.

Update,

Nothing works, I would assume at this point this is a software issue not loading drivers for the USB's.  I've talked with the software proivider and they don't have an answer either.

A little frustrating in that if I was in trouble I'd be forced to reload windows and start all over and not be able to reset the password.  I can't think of any other way to command the PC without a keyboard or mouse. The touch screen of course doesn't work either.

I did try the software on a laptop, worked perfectly, mouse and keyboard both active

any other suggestions?

Thanks for your help

The motherboard is capable of "basic" support for a keyboard or mouse connected to the USB 2 ports.

With a USB keyboard, can you enter BIOS SETUP, and check that this support is "enabled" ?

If you can enter BIOS SETUP, then that "basic" support for a USB keyboard must be enabled.

If you cannot enter BIOS SETUP using a USB keyboard, you have a much-bigger problem.

In sequence:

start PC

press F9 (using either the wireless or a wired keyboard)

boot to USB (password reset software),

While software loads you see the typical "windows is loading files" on the botom of the screen with the progess bar.

Watching the USB mouse light (underneath), after software loads lite goes off.

USB Keyboard lights go off.no keyboard or mouse commands.

I say again, tried a different software to reset the password, had the same results. No mouse of keyboard

That's it! I'm not disagreeing with you, this should be a no brainer, but none of the ports work move things around in every configuartion imaginable.

Could the MB have a prblem?

OK.  So, the motherboard's "minimal" support for USB devices is working.

> While software loads you see the typical "windows is loading files" on the botom of the screen with the progress bar.

> Watching the USB mouse light (underneath), after software loads lite goes off.

> USB Keyboard lights go off. No keyboard or mouse commands.

I think that the software you are loading uses the Windows "Pre-Execution Environment" -- a stripped-down version of Windows -- just enough of it to load the actual "password-reset" software.

That may be "too-stripped-down" -- no support for USB devices.  Sigh.

Instead, Google-search for "Nordahl offline password", for a bootable CD-recordable that loads a minimal version of Linux, and see if that works.

> I say again, tried a different software to reset the password, had the same results.

Name of the programs that you have tried ???

> Could the MB have a problem?

Never Say Never Again -- http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0086006/trivia

It's not the motherboard that has the problem -- it's the software that you are booting.

It must not have loaded the correct USB device-drivers.

Try that "Nordahl" software on your computer.

Or, find an older motherboard, with PS/2 ports.

Pull your disk-drive from your computer, and connect it to this motherboard.

Add PS/2 keyboard & mouse & CD-ROM.

Boot from the CD-recordable (or the USB).

Reset the password.

Update:

Downloaded Nordahl, latest release was in 2014,

Burned the USB version, loaded into my HP Laptop running Windows 7 Pro.

Follow the instructions from the programmer

Booted, ran the program, no problems what-so-ever. Even to the point I unlocked the passwords. nice little program thought I was ready to get this done.

Tried the same program on the new HP all-in-one. I have keyboard imput "good", (no need for a mouse) but then it stopped booting when loading the kernal. Just a flashing cursor which I let run for a while hoping it would progress.

Any other programs out there that might work. Seems DOS based is the best!

Thank you again

A little "messy", but:

* open-up the All-In-One,

* remove the disk-drive,

* unfortunately, you cannot insert this disk-drive into your laptop.  Sigh. So, find an older, desktop-style computer, and connect the disk-drive, CD-drive, keyboard, mouse, and monitor to this computer, and run the "nordahl" software,

* move the disk-drive back to the All-In-One,

* close-up the All-In-One.

I wonder if you can contact that "Nordahl" author, to see if he has any suggestions (or has a "beta-test" newer version) for his software.

I have heard, but have not verified, that there is similar software bundled with the free UBUNTU 16.0 software.

Burn UBUNTU to a DVD-recordable, and boot your All-In-One from it.  While booting, choose the "live CD" version (to *NOT* "touch" anything on your hard-drive), and run that "equivalent" software.
