We are unable to install Windows 7 64 bit in HP 280 G2 Desktop. We have tried to changing the partition mode to MBR. When we tried changind the SATA Emulation Mode from AHCI to IDE, it does'nt work. When we try to change using the arrow keys, it stays on AHCI only. It seems like the IDE option is just not there. Please help.

Do you not see the following in the BIOS?
If you click on SATA emulation and it shows IDE, press the F10 key to save the change. If you do not do that, the change will not be made and saved.

Have you tried the right and left arrow keys?

Hi all
we had the same exact issue
I contacted HP, they told me that we bought the wrong version of the PC, not with the downgrade to 7 (our reseller is offering only the W10 Pro version...).
The fact is that legally, if I have a windows 10 *PRO* license i have the right to downgrade to 8 or 7 (if the PC support them).
If the PC on the HP site have seven's driver, I have the right to downgrade to 7, no way.
Nothing to do, the HP customer support close the story with "IMPOSSIBLE TO DOWNGRADE", also if I told that the only problem was that parameter in BIOS "SATA emulation" fixed on AHCI not editable.
So, no way to downgrade.
But we study a workaround, not so easy to implement, because it request you have another HP PC with a seven installation, before the first power on.
We had one, a Prodesk 400 G3, with a windows 10 downgrade to 7 license. The SO pre-installed is 7 PRO.
This PC was never turned on, so the SO was unexploded
So, we took the HD of the prodesk 400 g3 and cloned it onto the HD of the 280 G2
turned on, all worked perfectly, the PC is now with 7 Pro.
If this solution did not work, we thought to starting the 7 installation on another PC, at the first reboot remove the hard drive and put it on th 280G2.
So if you don't have an unexploded 7 installation you can try this
This is our experience, I think the matter is a bugged BIOS, only that...
(Sorry for my English, I hope to be able to make myself understood ...)

I found a solution to that issue.
Firstly, i would like to mention that i tried many times to boot from an external DVD drive with LINUX.
All the process was normal, the drivers were copied and pasted to the HDD.
But when we boot again from the Win7 Pro CD the installation started and we could not install the drivers.
We always received that there was no driver for Win7 Pro and all the other drivers which are correct were hidden.
For that reason, we focus on the implementation of the last scenario.
The main solution is to connect a SATA disk directly to the motheboard and connect it also with the power supply.
If you insert the Win7 Pro boot CD to the SATA disk and then the installation process begins as usual without facing anything.

The chipset is the Intel H110.
That means you can use the chipset , Intel USB 3.0 eXtensible Host Controller Driver, Intel graphics, Intel Management Engine Interface Driver, for Windows 7 from the HP 400 G3 SFF, The Envy 750-170na, and the HP Pavilion 122nd.
