Hi @loucarter3486

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query.

I understand you're unable to sign in to your HP laptop because it displays a "Too many login attempts" message. I'll help you identify the type of lock so we can proceed with the correct troubleshooting steps.

Turn on the laptop and wait until the error message appears.

Carefully read the message displayed on the screen.

Check whether the message mentions any of the following:

  • Windows PIN
  • Microsoft account password
  • BIOS Administrator Password
  • Power-On Password
  • BitLocker Recovery

Using a mobile phone, take a clear picture of the entire screen, ensuring the complete error message is visible.

Share the picture here along with the answers to the following questions:

  • Does the issue occur immediately after turning on the laptop, before the HP logo or Windows loads?
  • Or does it occur at the Windows sign-in screen after Windows has finished loading?
  • Have you recently changed your password or PIN?
  • Are you signing in with a Microsoft account or a local Windows account?

Once I receive the picture and your answers, I'll be able to identify whether the issue is related to Windows, the BIOS, or another security feature and provide the appropriate steps to help you regain access.

Take care and have an amazing day!

I'm an HP Employee.
