OMEN by HP Obelisk Desktop 875-0084
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Howdy!

I'd like to see if anyone out there has a solution to my problem with updating Windows 10 to Windows 11.

After a 3+ hour download, all I get when trying to upgrade to Windows 11 is the following message:

"Stop Code Driver PNP Watchdog"

It will then remove every effort of downloading Win 11 and set me back to Win 10.

Any ideas?

Bruce

Think carefully, before taking the risk, see the experiences of other users, see if it can be interesting
Windows 10 remains one of the best systems, and can be used for quite a while.

I have performed the installation with a compatible computer ..
And I can not take full advantage of the more or less interesting features, because you have to have a certain material
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/windows-11-specifications
So far, so there is nothing extraordinary about this system
So if the computer is not compatible, you have little interest in using it ..
In some cases, we can have more problem than something else (performance etc), it is better to wait until most of the bugs are solved.
And even better to have a 100% compatible computer, in order to be able to take advantage of the available features
Now, if you want to give it a try, first plan to use specialized software, and make a ghost copy of your installation.

Now check your drivers

@gurpsgm -- since the Other Person did not offer specific advice, my recommendation is to read a few "on-point" articles, via:

   https://www.bing.com/search?q=Stop+Code+Driver+PNP+Watchdog

which give good suggestions.

Another alternative that was not given by the Other Person was to purchase a new disk-drive ($70 ???), remove the current disk-drive, connect the new disk-drive, and do a "fresh" install of Windows 11 onto the new disk-drive.

See: Windows 11 brings you closer to what you love (microsoft.com)

to download Windows 11, and to either "burn" a copy onto a DVD, or write a copy onto an empty 8GB USB memory-stick.

Since your computer has been "activated" to run Windows 10, it will automatically "activate" to run Windows 11.

And no, because I could simply give a google link, but I didn't see the point of it.
the first link gives several indications to test!
I also do not tell the user to make an immediate expense for the purchase of another system disk, because it may not be necessary..
And not everyone can afford unnecessary expenses.

so I'm waiting to see the user's response before looking for something else

Well, to make a long story short, this did not work.

After wasting from 7:00 AM this morning to 3:15 PM this afternoon, I still got the same error message:

"Stop Code Driver PNP Watchdog"

I'm now heavily considering keeping Windows 10 on this machine until I finally need to upgrade the desktop for other purposes (such as gaming of various types).

Win 10 is supposed to be continued until 2024 or 2025, That gives me plenty of time to get a whole new desktop computer.

Some info for the techies out there:

@gurpsgm -- Win 10 is supposed to be continued until 2024 or 2025

Microsoft's "Product Lifecycle" for Windows 10 has declared that the Windows Updates on Tuesday, October 14, 2025 will be the "final" updates. So, that will be its "sunset" date.

What happens if you disconnect the two "My Book" devices, and then try to install Windows 11?

Those are "PNP" (Plug-N-Play) devices that may be interfering with the Windows 11 Installer.

Your HP Obelisk computer was released on 05-Sept-2019.

So, if you still have the original disk-drive, which is now definitely out-of-warranty, and you plan to use that disk-drive until October 2025, when the disk-drive will be very "old", I recommend that you "proactively" replace the disk-drive, and do a "full" install of Windows 11 onto the replacement.

If you still have problems installing Windows 11, your "fall-back-plan" is quite quick & simple: remove the new disk-drive, reconnect the current disk-drive -- no waiting hours for the failed installation to "uninstall" itself.

P.S. Computers are expensive. If you are committed to using one, then spending $70 -- once every 4 years -- is an affordable and necessary part of that commitment.

my computer is slightly older and i was able to install windows 11..
But indeed, it's up to you, if your computer works well with Windows 10, you still have quite a few years of use..
If you have tried the update with other connected devices, this is indeed a possibility.
Me, I did the update, via Windows update, simply
but unlike some, I don't find anything extraordinary with windows 11, there are even a few points still to be reviewed
Otherwise, you could try a full install, but honestly I don't think it's worth it.
