Version 1803 is over three years old!  Waiting this long means that Windows Update, the usual route, is not going to work because your version is so old it is no longer supported.  Why did you wait so long? Did you try other updates in the interim and they failed?  If so, why did they fail?

Computer was unused (in storage) during the time frame and now would like to upgrade.

Do you have a fix to offer?

Yes I do -- but it's a lot of work (since Windows Update will not work) and their is no guarantee it will work.

You will need to do the following:

1) Make a backup of the current HP Drivers -- as you might need this after the upgrade

See here:  https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/68426-backup-restore-device-drivers-windows-10-a.html

2) Use the Microsoft link to download and create Win10 install media -- you will need an 8GB USB stick for this

See here:  https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10

3) Insert the USB stick into your PC, do NOT boot from it, find the folder containing its contents, right-click the setup.exe file and select Run as administrator.  That will start an in-place upgrade which should take a couple of hours to complete and will reboot several times in the process.

4) Once the Upgrade is done and\ you're back to a working desktop, then insert the media you used to save the HP drivers and restore them -- as the Upgrade is likely to overwrite the HP drivers with generic drivers.

Thank you. I have attempted to download Windows 10 to a USB Memory Stick See here:  https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10

The USB Memory Stick had 32 Gig of space with no other files.

After running for several hours the process failed and the memory stick is now inaccessible.

I repeated the process with another 32 Gig memory stick with same result.

I am now unable to fomat either memory stick.

Any thoughts on how to address this issue?

You don't need a 32GB stick for the Windows install media; 8GB is sufficient.  You should download the ISO file to a PC so you can try different USB sticks without having to do the download each time.

If the process fails after running a long time, that implies a problem with the drive.
