I have an old HP Pavilion a6000n PC that came with Vista but I put Win7 on it. The screen occasionally scrambles and the pc locks up. From what I've seen on the internet, I believe I need the correct drivers. Nothing comes up when I search HP site for this particular machine.

Hi:
Install both the nvidia chipset and graphics drivers from the links below and see if that resolves the problem for you.
Chipset: Install and restart the PC.

Graphics: Install and restart the PC.

I would say the onboard nVidia GPU is on its way out.
I don't know if you want to invest any money in such an old PC, but this is my go to video card that I install in old PC's.
This model was made for Dell PC's, but I have used it in many HP PC's as well.
As a matter of fact, I don't think I have ever used it in any Dell PC I've owned.
You would need a DVI monitor connection, or get a DVI-I to VGA adapter...
For $8 bucks, it should solve your dilemma.
It was the cheapest one I could find for immediate purchase.
