Hi "ITSMYNAME" - I am reviewing all the response i got in regards to have two OS on my NEW HP ENVY. I want now to start working on installing WINDOWS 11 as my second OS and want to retain WINDOWS 10 too. For that i have an external SEGATE DRIVE. That said "ITSMYNAME" i seek your assist. I reviewed your response over and over again, however i failed to understand as to how do i remove "POWER CABLE AND DATA CABLE" for windows 10 OS which is residing on the HP ENVY Desktop - TE01-0049 - HARD DRIVE. I have a tool provided by SEAGATE to clone the drive.
So if i connect an external drive and clone my existing HARD DRIVE to this external drive and then i need to boot from the external drive and apply "WINDOWS UPDATE TO GET WINDOWS 11" from HP ASSISTANT.
However what i want to do is
- Connect an external drive
- Download WINDOWS 11 (what should i download from MS site or HP site - IOS or ????)
- Install the same on the external drive
- Change "what"? in BIOS so that i can get to choose the OS i want - dual boot.
Basically i want to have TWO OS choices. Your assist in this matter would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.

@KERICHO -- how "new" is your computer? Does it employ an M.2 or NVME memory-stick, connected to a socket on the motherboard, to emulate a disk-drive, or does the computer have a SATA disk-drive?
The SATA disk-drive, like a CD/DVD device, is mounted into a "drive-bay", and there are two cables: "data" & "power" from the back of the device.
Connect your target disk-drive to your computer.
Then, launch the SEAGATE software, choosing your "source" (the M.2 l/ NVME stick) or the disk-drive, and choosing the "target" device. Choose the "clone" option within the SEAGATE software.
Then, physically remove the M.2 / NVME memory-stick, or disconnect the "data" and "power" cables from the SATA disk-drive.
Enter BIOS SETUP, and set the "first bootable device" to be your new device. Save/Exit from setup.
Confirm that the computer will successfully boot from it.
Then, run Windows Update, and choose to update to Windows 11.
After the update, shutdown your computer.
Re-insert the M.2 / NVME stick (or reconnect the "data" and "power" cables).
Enter BIOS SETUP.
Set the "first bootable" device to be either your new disk-drive, or the old M.2 / NVME / SATA device.
Exit from BIOS Setup.
Your computer should boot Windows from the "first" device.

Hi "ITSMYNAME"
Thank you so much for being so helpful.
OK this is what took place and i am totally baffled.
- I used SEAGTE tool to clone the OS drive.
- Got an error on the USB connected drive.
- I then "cleaned-&-formatted" the Seagate external drive.
- I then went to MICROSOFT site and downloaded WINDOWS 11 - "CREATE WINDOWS 11 INSTALLATION MEDIA"
- This was on a flash drive.
- re-booted the desktop
- Opened the USB flash drive and clicked on "SETUP"
- I watched the external Seagate drive and yes the blue light was "flicking"
- i waited for the option for the drive
- Never got the option
- Installation asked me if i want to INSTALL with all the apps and files "as-is" or a clean-install
- I chose "as-is" with apps and files intact.
- and then the installation gave me an error stating that i MUST RESTART MY PC
- i removed the flash drive and disconnected the Seagate drive and rebooted the desktop
- Got a message updates-being-applied - thinking that the these are normal MS WINDOWS 10 update
- BUT NO WHEN THE DESKTOP BOOTED I GIT A BRAND NEW SCREEN BUT WITH SAME APPS AND FILES I HAD BEFORE AND YES I NOW HAVE WINDOWS 11 - go figure...........
I will live with it and see how it works else i will restore the image of windows 10.
That said :ITSMYNAME" i do appreciate your efforts & support and THANK YOU SO MUCH.

@KERICHO --
- re-booted the desktop
Did you boot from the internal disk-drive, or from the external disk-drive?
- Opened the USB flash drive and clicked on "SETUP"
OK.
- I watched the external Seagate drive and yes the blue light was "flicking"
For a long time, or just briefly?
- i waited for the option for the drive
- Never got the option
I have never seen such an option.
That SETUP will upgrade the current "C:" disk-drive. Was the internal disk-drive the "C:" drive?

Hi "ITSMYNAME"
Thank you so much for your detailed response.
- In regards to the re-booting - i had changed the BIOS to boot from USB and i did see the blue light on the external drive flicker
so i though that it is booting from the USB external drive.
- However the screen showed MICROSOFT process to take a very very long time.
- You are correct the INSTALL process took DRIVE = C as default
It is now done so i have to move forward with it . I started making sure that all my apps are working and they are and basically it feels like i am still working with WINDOWS 10 different screen and layout. Now i am trying ascertain if i could UPGRADE winnows 11 HOME TO PRO - without purchasing PRO......
I do appreciate all your detailed info and I THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT. Have a great day and weekend too.

@KERICHO -- i am trying ascertain if i could UPGRADE win nows 11 HOME TO PRO - without purchasing PRO
What additional features that are exclusively part of the "Pro" version do you need?
I know of no LEGAL way of upgrading from HOME to PRO that does not involve purchasing an "upgrade" product-key. Presumably, Microsoft priced HOME at less than PRO, because most "home" users will not use any features that are exclusive to PRO.
Have you Google-searched for "differences between Windows 11 Home and Pro" ?
I did, and one article: Windows 11 Home vs Pro: What’s the Difference? (minitool.com)
seems to be good, but it is accompanied by promotions for their MINITOOL software programs.

Hi "ITSMYNAME"
Thank you so much for your response. Yes i did go to MS site and i did compare WINDOWS 11 HOME VS PRO. And i did determine that i DO NOT NEED PRO as PRO is more for business related apps. Well, "ITSMYNAME" i am OK with what i have and what i use it for so ALL IS WELL AT MY END...........
However I must THANK YOU for all your support and efforts.
Take care and bye for now.
