Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

HP Desktop Pavilion 6610f 64bit OS Win 7 Home Premium  Wireless and Ethernet cord connection

Purchased over 6 years ago.  OS Win 7 came preloaded.  It is the very same operating system that I have been using all this time, but for some reason Microsoft started harrassing me about my Windows operating system not being genuine.

I have tried to do all that they ask, but their validation programs do not seem to work for me and today I finally got a message saying that my OS validation "key number" was incorrect.

Since I have had the same one for all this time, I am not sure where to look to find the key number, or why it would somehow be wrong when it has been fine for 6 years.  I have not had any break downs, freeze ups or repairs done to my PC.

I thought it might have been an update that screwed things up so I did a system restore and removed the very last update, but that did not help.

I believe this has something to do with the fact that Microsoft has been pushing me to upload their "FREE" Windows10 operating system, which I have refused to do, repeatedly and even spoke to their tech support on the phone about it and asked them to remove it from my system so that I would not keep seeing their incessant Icon pushing me to upload. That was a year and a half ago and it has been in my icon tray ever since!!

Why push it so hard and for free?  I have heard negative things about the operating system and I do not want it.  I am very happy with the one I have.  I am starting to get very suspicious about their motives.

Can anyone help me me with my OS validation key or if someone has had a similar problem and resoved it, could you pass that information on to me, as I am getting very annoyed with that company??

I have expended way too much time and energy trying to accomodate them for something that is obviously THEIR error.  I have contacted the MS community Forum as well and had many replies to which I did as they suggested every time and it is still not resolved!!

Thank you in advance for your time.

Taylor

Your computer has two Microsoft Windows PID keys associated with it. One that is on the hard drive and HP Recovery Media, provided you create your HP Recovery Media. And the other one that is on the Microsoft COA sticker on the side of your computer.

The key that is on the hard drive on and Recovery Media is a mass activation SLP (system locked preinstallation) key, This SLP key must be paired with a valid SLIC2.1 BIOS and a valid matching SLP certificate to automatically activate Windows 7. If any of these three items gets corrupted, it is possible that the computer can lose it activation status. This situation can normally be remedied by returning the computer to a factory like state using the HP Recovery Media.

If the above sounds like too much work, can use the HP OEM key from the Microsoft COA sticker to activate you current Windows 7 installation.

Thank you so much for your speedy response.  While waiting, I finally got down on the floor on my arthritic knees and copied the Product validation key that was on the VERY bottom of the PC and in such small print I had to get a flashlight and a magnifying glass and could only copy 5 numbers at a time.  So it took me a while, but I have it now.

I just remembered that I had to install a new hard drive a year or so ago.  I purchased a refurbished one from eBay and downloaded my original OS from the Original Recovery Disks that I made when I first got my computer.  Do you think that is why I am having a problem with Microsoft ??

I have my original PC Validation Key number ...

Still, I am not sure what to do with it.  Each time I click on the message that tells me to go online to resolve the situation, it is always something automated and I have no option of inputting the number myself and besides that the automated program does not work with my browser( IE10) for some reason so I have to jump through more hoops.

Also, I did not see the white kudos button or any of the buttons, this time, to mark helpful or resolved, etc.  The site seemed to load funny and it looked very different.

Ugh!

Thank you again,

Taylor
