The New Volume D Drive = 238 GB

Hi @theoguins2,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

I Understand your concern about  C drive stroage issue, don’t worry let me help you with this.

On many HP laptops, the C drive is reserved for the operating system and essential system files. That’s why it’s smaller and already heavily used. The D drive is typically meant for your personal files, apps, and data storage. It’s normal for the C drive to look full because Windows, recovery partitions, and pre‑installed software take up a large portion of it.

To better understand the issue, could you please provide a few more details?

  • Did you install any large programs or games recently?
  • Have you noticed any unusual files or folders taking up space?
  • Are you storing documents, downloads, or media directly on the C drive instead of the D drive?

Here are a few troubleshooting steps you can try right away:

  • Check Disk Usage: Open Settings > System > Storage to see what categories are using space on C.
  • Move Personal Files: Transfer documents, pictures, videos, and downloads from C to D.
  • Uninstall Unnecessary Apps: Remove pre‑installed or unused programs from C.
  • Run Disk Cleanup: Search for Disk Cleanup in the Start menu and clear temporary files.
  • Change Default Save Location: In Settings > Storage, set the D drive as the default location for new apps and files

I hope this helps.

I'm an HP Employee.
