Using the HP Assistant, the action list includes getting my PC tested by HP for Windows Compatibility.  Everytime I click the red button to do that, I get a generic response saying that Computers manufactured before August of 2013 may not be compatible.

My question is how and where do I get it tested to find out if it is compatible.  My computer was manufactured in 2011.

Is it automatically not compatible?

Hi,

HP will not provide driver support for your PC as it was manufactured in 2011.

Will your PC upgrade successfully?

That is an unknown.

I would not kill the current operating system installation by trying the Win 10 upgrade in your circumstance. I would, and have upgraded PC's under the circumstances which exist for you. But I did the upgrade on a second, cloned, operating system SSD. I have also had to restore failed Win 10 upgrades where the user did not take precautions before upgrading to Win 10.

Some upgrades worked, some failed. Some failed system upgrades were recoverable and others had to be recovered using the factory recovery discs.

Microsoft does not always solve failed upgrades. HP will not support your 2011 PC if the upgrade fails unless you pay them. HP will only support the operating system installed at the factory.

Looks like some driver is stopping it from updating. You could try running Recovery and then upgrade.

Wish you luck,

Hello, Thanks for your reply, but I think you misunderstood my request.  I am trying to run the a "test your computer" program from the HP website.  I am not trying to "recover"   I am not going to upgrade to Windows 10 until I am absolutely sure that my computer is compatible.

Thank you, Jay.  I pretty much have already decided not to do the upgrade for all the reasons you mentioned.  Your response confirms that I have probably made the right decision.

I have downloaded the upgrade thru Windows Upgrade Tool, but have Hidden it.  However, at this time, I do not intend to use it.

Thanks again.

Jay:  So, are you an HP tech, or a very knowledgeable IT person helping those of us who need help on the forum.

I'm new to this, so not sure how it works.  It is great that there are people out there who will answer questions when we just get sent round in circles by Microsoft, and I couldn't get a definite answer from HP either.

I was told my HP Computer was qualified for the upgrade by Microsoft  before I downloaded the  Windows Upgrade .  However, based on my research and your confirmation, I am sticking by my decision not to upgrade.

Just wondering......

P.S. your Avatar is my favorite group 🙂
