I forgot my Windows password on my PC. Despite trying every password I've used, none seem to work. When I searched on YouTube for ways to reset my password, most suggested methods involved resetting the entire PC, which I'd rather avoid as it would wipe my data. However, I found another method involving accessing system image recovery and renaming the 'Utilman' to 'Utilman1' and 'cmd' to 'utilman'. This allowed me to access the command prompt (cmd). But, when I attempted to change the password using the command 'net user Rayyan *', I received the following response:
'Type a password for the user:
Retype the password to confirm:
System error 8646 has occurred.
The system is not authoritative for the specified account and therefore cannot complete the operation. Please retry the operation using the provided associated with this account. If this is an online provider, please use the provider's online site.'
How can this be solved? Are there any other methods to reset a Windows password without losing data? Also, my account is an admin.
Note: Do remember all of this is being done on the windows login screen.
