HP Compaq 8100 Elite SFF
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

So, recently I've attempt to upgrade my hp 8100 elite to 16gbs of ram ( 4x4gbs ) from 8gbs of ram (4x2gbs).

I'm not mixing ram and I have them installed the right way, they are brand new as well.

I've tested the ram in a different PC, and the ram works. I diagnose the system to make sure it's ram, which it is.

The system would only keep rebooting windows 10 and would not stop.

I'm not sure if I need to upgrade my bios or not, or perhaps something else.

The CPU in the system is a stocked CPU, I have plans to upgrade it soon. ( i5 660 )

The only thing I could see that is differnet is the ram speeds, running at around 1200mhz.

Any thoughts or tips?

Hi:

There are a few models in the HP line of business desktop PC's where it is very hard to find the right memory--even though you have bought what seems to be the correct specs.

Yours is one of them, along with the 6000 Pro, and 8000 Elite series.

You have to buy low density memory, and that is often never described as a specification.

This model will work.

Patriot Signature 4GB 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333 (PC3 10600) Desktop Memory Model PSD34G13332

Another model that would work is this...G.SKILL Value Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333 (PC3 10600) Desktop Memory Model F3-10600CL9D-8GBNT

I can almost guarantee you, that is the root cause of your dilemma.

Thanks for the fast reply Paul!

I've checked the ram, and it's not low density memory so I'm pretty sure it's the cause of the issue.

I'm going to purchase this memory that you recommended me, I believe that it'll work.

( good reviews and it's black, good looking ram lol )

If I have any issues regarding this solution, I'll be sure to reply back.

Thanks, you've saved me some time
