Model 17-ak027cy
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello,

I have a 17" HP laptop model 17-ak027cy.

When I got it I signed into my Microsoft acct. and found it to be running W10 version 1909 with a notice "Your version of Windows has reached the end of service"

Also " The next version of Windows 20H2 is ready to install. It fails to install every time with no error code.

I've tried to install the latest version 21H2 using Windows Update assistant. Same result no error code. Laptop just returns to V1909

I've tried installing W11 using a flash drive after doing some registry changes. Same result.

I also tried

I have since reset the laptop to factory settings.

Is there anything else I can do to update?

Hello @leahcimj

Sorry to hear that you are having problems ... I would like to help you.

(1) Windows 10 Version 1909 -> End of servicing on May 11, 2021

It's simply too old and upgrade will not work...

(2The only solution and recommendation

--->>> Reinstall the operating system

Use the official Microsoft method:

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10ISO

After installation is done, download and install HP drivers

https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers

Kind regards

Hello Ub6424,

Thank you for your response

I've already tried ( https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10ISO ). Update Assistant

After Installation laptop is still running version 1909. I opened up the HP link and can probably enter s/n of laptop but the unit is still running 1909 after using the Update Assistant to install the latest version of W10. It shows no error code, just asks for re-start and update to 21H2 apparently has failed. I also tried updating to 20H2 before trying 21H2. Same failure.

If I went to the HP link I would be installing drivers for the latest version 21H2 version when1909 is running after attempted system update .

Hello Ub6424

I had reset the laptop to factory settings.

I tried signing in and re-installing the operating system. 1909 was installed.

I used https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10ISO to try to install the latest version of W10

After installation and restart the OS was still on 1909.

Should I try the drivers first. If they install they will be downloaded to 1909.

Hello @leahcimj

You need to create a bootable <USB flash drive> to install the latest version of Windows 10 operating system.

Kind regards

All fails...

I've tried installing W11 using a flash drive after doing some registry changes.

I've already tried ( https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10ISO ).for the latest version of W10.

If I make a USB Flash Drive of W10 do I download the HP drivers first?

This has the advantage to install the drivers "offline" after Windows setup.

Good luck
