Hi @ridgernnr,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

Thank you for providing the exact error message and code. Based on what you described, this is a known Windows file access/installation path issue related to HP Support Solutions Framework (HPSF), which is a core component used by HP Support Assistant.

This happens for one or more of the following HP‑verified reasons:

  • The installer was partially downloaded or corrupted
  • The download path no longer exists or is blocked by Windows permissions
  • A previous HP Support Assistant / HPSF installation is damaged
  • Windows security settings blocked the EXE from running

Step 1: Completely remove damaged HP Support components

  1. Press Windows key + R
  2. Type: appwiz.cpl

Press Enter

  1. Uninstall all of the following (if listed):
    • HP Support Assistant
    • HP Support Solutions Framework
    • HP Diagnostics / HP Documentation (if present)
  2. Restart the computer

This clears broken registry pointers and invalid install paths.

Step 2: Remove leftover HP installer folders (important)

  1. Press Windows key + E
  2. Enable hidden items:
    • Click ViewShow → enable Hidden items
  3. Manually delete these folders if they exist:
    C:\Program Files (x86)\HP\HP Support Framework
    C:\Program Files\HP\HP Support Framework
    C:\ProgramData\HP
    C:\Users\<your username>\Downloads\HP
  4. Empty the Recycle Bin
  5. Restart the computer again

This step is required to prevent Windows from reusing the broken path.

Step 3: Download a fresh, verified HP installer

Only use the official HP download page below (do not reuse the old EXE):

HP Support Assistant – official HP link: HP Support Assistant | HP® Support

  1. Click Download HP Support Assistant
  2. Save the file directly to your Desktop
  3. Do NOT rename the file

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!

I'm an HP Employee.
