The Z820 boots up normally now, BUT in non-UEFI BIOS.
Pushing the CMOS reset button sent my Boot Block Date back to 12/28/2011(non-UEFI) from 3/6/2013 (UEFI based), so that remains an issue - the ATTO R680 is still not recognized - tried in 3 slots and in a Z800. So leading to the possibility of a dead card. BUT, looking forward to hearing what HP says... how this happened during BIOS update. Could the bios reset resulting in non-UEFI BIOS have made the R680 undiscoverable? ATTO Support has been magnificent - I am pending request of an RMA once I talk to HP.
LESSON: NEVER, EVER, EVER use the HP Windows interface - #1 on their list - to update your bios. Use the flash method - copying the xxxxx.bin file to a FAT-formatted USB and selecting Flash System ROM in the F10 Boot Menu.
Does anyone have ideas/similar circumstances? I sure would love some advice before I lay out $$$ on a new card.
Does HP ever look at these posts???
Original post:
HP Assistant recommended a bios update to 03.95 (from 3.92) and it crashed during update - black screen and blinking red lights. After pushing the CMOS reset button I was able to flash the bios on via USB.To boot into Windows, I need to hit escape to boot onto my C drive which is a Samsung 850 Pro SSD... it doesn't appear on the UEFI Boot Devices, only Legacy. I get "GPT-formatted disk. Legacy boot not supported" on regular boot-up otherwise. I've tried various combinations of Legacy/EFI settings in the Option Roms to no avail - sometimes making things worse Windows Restore, etc). I have Windows 10 Build 1903. I actually rolled that back too, to no avail. Also done Repair.Unfortunately I did not record my previous bios settings
I also cannot find the ATTO R680 RAID controller. I've tried several settings in the bios set-up menus to no avail. I have disabled the internal LSI Mustang 2308 controller and set the SATA Mode to RAID + AHCI. I think I am updated on my Intel Chipset and Rapid Storage Tech service packs, but HP doesn't make that easy either. After days of research, I think I have some kind of conflict in the bios related to UEFI/bios settings...help - I need to boot normally and find my external RAID array!!
I've learned several lessons - mainly don't listen to HP Assistant and don't use HP's Windows program to update bios.
Thank you one and all,
Diane

After even more research, I discovered my system is NOT UEFI-based. But my C drive is GPT-formatted and has not been touched during this week of hell. And, at one point, I did see the option to access the UEFI Firmware Menu in Windows 10 - now, no. I can however, boot off the C drive without hitting ESC . But still no ATTO R680 ExpressSAS controller. I am completely lost at this point! Not sure if I should:
1. Go back to earlier Windows Build - 1803
2. Roll back to BIOS 3.94 or 3.92 - flashing from USB
3. Reinstall Windows ... ugh. Since I used Media Creation Tool to upgrade from W7, I wonder if I can run that again
Can anyone out there help me? Hello HP???
