hp 3646h

I have a problem when I want to install Windows, I burned it to a flash drive or a hard disk partition, which is "a media driver your computer needs is missing" and this problem is with different versions of Windows 10 such as 22H2 and 21H2 and even from different sources such as getmyos and softonic and even different versions such as Windows 7, although I have two discs, one for Windows 8 and one for Windows 7, and both are working normally and I don't understand the problems, and although the versions that I mentioned at the beginning (which are ISO versions and I burn them to a flash drive or a hard disk partition) were working very well for me and one time it didn't want to work even though I didn't change anything in the BIOS or change the ISO files or change the burning programs, it's just that there is something strange that I don't know if it is related to it or not, I was playing Roblox and I entered a serve whose graphics were very high, so I found my device stopped and the screen went black and then it came back again and from After this topic, I found that many things were damaged on my device, and not only on this OS, because I had another OS on a different partition that I found was damaged as well, and a game was no longer working.
So, what is the problem in detail and what is the solution? Note that I tried downloading the AHCI RAID IDE drivers, and either the driver was not compatible at all, or only one driver appeared to be compatible, and yet it said the operation failed.
I tried also formating the SSD

Hi @Reyes4D

This is a complex and serious issue that appears to be related to a hardware failure that occurred right around the time your screen went black while playing Roblox. The error message you're receiving—"A media driver your computer needs is missing"—is a classic symptom of the Windows installer failing to recognize the main storage drive (SSD/HDD) due to a driver issue, but the timing of the failure and the damage to multiple partitions suggests a deeper root cause.

The product name "HP 3646h" does not seem to correspond to a standard, readily identifiable HP model number.

To provide the best solution, I will focus on the most common causes and the damage you described.

The solution involves fixing the missing driver issue and then testing the underlying hardware.

Step 1: Temporarily Fix the Driver Error (The Missing Driver)

The missing driver is almost certainly the AMD or Intel Chipset SATA/NVMe controller driver. You need to download it separately and load it during the Windows setup.

  1. Find Your PC's Exact Model Number:

    • You need the full model number (e.g., HP Pavilion 15-cs0xxx). Search for a sticker on the bottom of the laptop or check the BIOS screen. Without this, finding the correct driver is guesswork.

  2. Download the Correct Driver:

    • Go to the official HP Support website for your model.

    • Look for the driver in the Driver-Chipset category. You need the SATA/RAID/NVMe driver (often called "IRST" for Intel or "AMD RAID Pre-install Driver").

    • Crucial: Download the ZIP file, not the executable installer.

  3. Prepare the Windows USB Installer:

    • Keep the original Windows 10/11 installation USB ready.

    • Extract the contents of the driver ZIP file (only the .sys, .inf, and .cat files) to a separate folder on the root of your Windows installation USB drive (e.g., D:\storage_drivers).

  4. Load the Driver During Installation:

    • Start the Windows installation process from the USB drive.

    • When you reach the screen that says "A media driver your computer needs is missing," click "Load driver."

    • Click "Browse" and navigate to the folder you created on the USB drive (e.g., D:\storage_drivers).

    • The compatible driver should appear. Select it and click "Next."

If the driver loads successfully, the Windows installer should then recognize your SSD/HDD, and you can proceed with installation.

Step 2: Check for BIOS Settings (AHCI Mode)

Your older Windows 7/8 discs might work because they default to the correct mode, while the newer ISOs default to an incompatible mode.

  1. Restart the PC and enter the BIOS (usually by pressing F10 or Esc repeatedly).

  2. Navigate to the System Configuration or Advanced settings.

  3. Look for SATA Operation, Storage Mode, or AHCI/RAID/IDE.

  4. Ensure the mode is set to AHCI. If it is set to RAID (and you are not running a RAID setup), change it to AHCI.

  5. Save and Exit. Try the Windows installation again.

Step 3: Test the Hardware (Most Important Step)

Given the damage you observed, you must check the hardware.

  1. Use the HP Hardware Diagnostic Tool:

    • Restart the PC and press F2 or F9 (check your specific model) to enter the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics menu.

    • Run a Full System Test, focusing specifically on the Storage (Hard Drive/SSD) Test. This will confirm if the drive is physically failing.

  2. Replace the SSD/HDD:

    • If the drive test fails, the simplest solution is to replace the SSD/HDD entirely. The damage you described (multiple partitions corrupted) points to a faulty SSD/HDD or faulty connection.

  3. Check for Overheating/Power Issues:

    • The black screen while gaming strongly suggests an overheating or power-related shutdown. Ensure your laptop vents are clean and the cooling fan is working. A bad power supply could have caused a surge that damaged the storage controller.

If the new SSD/HDD still gives the same "missing driver" error after performing Step 1 (loading the driver), the failure is likely on the motherboard (SATA/NVMe controller), which would require a professional repair or motherboard replacement.
