Welcome to our HP Community forum!
Your HP EliteBook 840 G2 Notebook is fitted with a 5th Generation Intel Core processor, such as the i7-5600U. These processors are not Windows 11 approved as per Microsoft.
However, if you like your laptop, there are a number of reliable and effective methods developed which would allow you to almost effortlessly upgrade your notebook to Windows 11 in non-supported hardware, such as this easy-to-follow YouTube instructional video shows: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lSrmhhigEhY&t=332s&ab_channel=Tips2Fix.
Just take your time to follow each step, which is presented in a very user-friendly fashion -in my opinion.
In the off-chance you don't like W11, you have 10 days to roll back to Windows 10. After 10 days, unless you follow the steps outlined in this instructional video, you may need to do a fresh install of Windows 10. Either way, this video will show you what to do: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2v9_-4JCh_U&ab_channel=Tips2Fix.
I would recommend updating your BIOS to the newest (latest) version: 01.31 Rev.A, which can be found here:
https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/hp-elitebook-840-g2-notebook-pc/7343202, before you switch to Windows 11.
Kind Regards,
