high idle temps around 70-80c

I assume you have one of the following mobile graphics processors from NVidia.

For use in models with RTX 3050 or 3050Ti N13305-001
For use in models with GTX 1650 graphics N13306-001
For use in models with RX 6500M graphics N14593-001

 

All of those chips start shutting down near 93c.   I see reports of 70-80c so it is common.

 

However, running at high temps can damage nearby components on the motherboard even to cause the battery to swell up.  This can occur if charging at same time as gaming.  Always start a game with battery near full charge.  Running in turbo mode also contributes to heat.  Possibly more so than the graphics processor.  Edit your power plan so that the maximum is %99.  Minimum can be left at %5.  This will keep the CPU out of turbo mode and prolong the laptop life.  Use an air duster periodically.
