Hi @phkennedy,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.
Most modern HP laptops and desktops no longer include a built-in disc drive (CD/DVD), especially models like the HP Laptops, which are designed to be slim and lightweight.
How to Check If Your HP PC Has a Disc Drive
- Look at the sides of your laptop:
- A disc drive slot is usually on the right side.
- It looks like a thin rectangular tray with a small eject button and a pinhole.
- Check in File Explorer:
- Open File Explorer (Windows + E)
- Look for a drive labelled DVD RW Drive (D:) or similar
- Check Device Manager:
- Press Windows + X > Device Manager
- Expand DVD/CD-ROM drives to see if any are listed
If Your PC Doesn’t Have a Disc Drive
You can use an external USB DVD drive:
- Plug it into a USB port
- Windows will auto-detect it
- You can then read/write CDs or DVDs
I hope this helps.
Take care, and have an amazing day!
