Hi @phkennedy,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

Most modern HP laptops and desktops no longer include a built-in disc drive (CD/DVD), especially models like the HP Laptops, which are designed to be slim and lightweight.

How to Check If Your HP PC Has a Disc Drive

  1. Look at the sides of your laptop:
    • A disc drive slot is usually on the right side.
    • It looks like a thin rectangular tray with a small eject button and a pinhole.

  2. Check in File Explorer:
    • Open File Explorer (Windows + E)
    • Look for a drive labelled DVD RW Drive (D:) or similar

  3. Check Device Manager:
    • Press Windows + X > Device Manager
    • Expand DVD/CD-ROM drives to see if any are listed

If Your PC Doesn’t Have a Disc Drive

You can use an external USB DVD drive:

  • Plug it into a USB port
  • Windows will auto-detect it
  • You can then read/write CDs or DVDs

I hope this helps.

Take care, and have an amazing day!
