Not sure if the connector you mentioned will work as it is a DVI-D connector???
Are one of the following ones better?

On the back of your computer, you have a socket with a GREEN ring.
Take the cable that came with your new monitor, and plug one end into that socket on the motherboard.
Plug the other end into the socket on your new monitor.
You may need to use the "Sound" application, within "Control Panel" (Windows 7) or "Settings" (Windows 10) to change the "default" sound-output device.
Or, do you already have speakers plugged-in to that GREEN socket on your motherboard?
Are those speakers turned-on? Is their own volume-control set to MAXIMUM?
On your computer, is your "sound" application (that speaker in the bottom right) MUTED, or not set to MAXIMUM level?
